Awetomaton is seeking a Senior AI / ML Engineer to establish our first onsite presence with existing customers in Boulder, CO. In this role you will use your OPIR domain expertise to identify salient features for development of new AI/ML models. You will use Python and appropriate AI/ML libraries (PyTorch, TensorFlow, etc.) to develop and mature R&D exploitation capabilities. The ideal candidate will possess a MS degree or higher in AI / ML field with 10-15 years of professional experience.
This position will be performed entirely onsite in Boulder, CO. Active DoD Secret security clearance and background check required. We are looking for a candidate to start in the April 2026 timeframe. Application deadline of March 20, 2026.
Criteria for success
- Communicate effectively in both written and verbal form with peers & decision makers
- Demonstrate initiative when faced with limited guidance or ambiguous requirements
- AI/ML expertise in Python
- Expertise in OPIR image processing and data exploitation
Required Experience and Skills
- Master of Science in AI/ML scientific discipline
- Ten (10) years of minimum experience developing AI/ML algorithms for object identification / classification
- Ten (10) years of experience creating AI/ML solutions in Python (e.g. PyTorch, Tensor Flow)
- Five (5) years of minimum experience in OPIR among of a mix of processing, exploitation, and analysis algorithm development
- Five (5) years of minimum experience with Container Technology (Docker / podman / etc.)
- Mastery of software configuration management using Git.
Desired Education and Experience
- Doctor of Philosophy in AI/ML scientific discipline
- Eight (8) years of experience in OPIR among of a mix of processing, exploitation, and analysis algorithm development
- Five (5) years of PyTorch expertise
- Expertise developing modular, reusable software via strong Object-Oriented Software development practices
- Experience following GitFlow and GitOps workflows using team repository (GitHub / Gitlab / etc.)
Salary
The salary for this position is $150,000 to $240,000 / year. Awetomaton takes multiple factors into consideration when extending an offer of employment, including but not limited to the role and associated responsibilities, as well as prior work experience, education/training, and key skills. Only exceptional candidates will meet expectations to approach the top end of salary range.
