This position will not have direct reports initially; however, the successful candidate will be responsible for designing, standing up, and scaling the LNG accounting function, including future team build-out. The role will play a critical part in systems implementation, technical accounting policy development, end-to-end process design, and the development of management reporting and analytics.

The Senior Accounting Manager / Technical Principal Accountant responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Accounting & Technical Leadership

  • Serve as the technical accounting authority for LNG-related transactions, including long-term contracts, derivatives, inventory, shipping, and revenue recognition.
  • Perform technical accounting research, interpret US GAAP guidance, and document conclusions in formal accounting memos.
  • Develop, establish, and maintain accounting policies specific to LNG activities and related commercial structures.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders and external auditors to support accounting positions and ensure audit readiness.

Systems & Implementation

  • Play a key role in the implementation and integration of IMOS and Endur, including:
    • Defining accounting and reporting requirements
    • Supporting system configuration, testing, and validation
    • Ensuring proper data flows from trading, scheduling, and operations into the general ledger and reporting layers
  • Act as the accounting liaison between business users, IT, data teams, and external implementation partners.

Process Design & Build-Out

  • Design, document, and implement end-to-end accounting processes for the LNG business, including:
    • Transaction capture and validation
    • Month-end close activities
    • Reconciliations and internal controls
    • Financial and management reporting support
  • Establish scalable, well-controlled processes that support future growth and increased transaction complexity.
  • Create and maintain process documentation, control narratives, and procedures.
  • Electrify accounting and forecasting processes in the Digital Work Environment (DWE).
  • Establish a technical accounting framework in the DWE.
  • Partner with Internal Audit to establish and maintain appropriate SOX controls over the LNG business.

Analytics, Dashboarding & Management Reporting

  • Design and develop management reporting frameworks for the LNG business, including P&L drivers, operational KPIs, and performance metrics.
  • Partner with finance, commercial, and operations teams to translate accounting and operational data into actionable insights for senior leadership.
  • Support the development and enhancement of dashboards and analytics solutions to improve visibility into trading results, inventory positions, exposures, and close performance.
  • Leverage data from IMOS, Endur, and financial systems to ensure consistent, accurate, and decision-useful reporting.
  • Contribute to the evolution of data models and reporting structures as the LNG platform scales.

Business Partnership & Growth

    • Partner closely with commercial, trading, operations, risk, and finance teams to support business decision-making.
    • Provide accounting and reporting guidance on new products, contracts, and structuring considerations.
    • Contribute to the long-term strategy for building the LNG accounting organization, including future hiring and organizational design.

Required Experience and Skills:

  • 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, with a strong emphasis on technical accounting.
  • CPA required.
  • Direct industry experience required, preferably in LNG, energy trading, commodities, or a related complex, transaction-driven environment.
  • Deep knowledge of US GAAP, including revenue recognition, derivatives/hedging, inventory, and complex contract accounting.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex accounting and data concepts to non-accounting stakeholders.

Preferred Experience and Skills:

  • Experience supporting or leading system implementations, with IMOS, Endur, or similar ETRM/CTRM platforms strongly preferred.
  • Proven ability to build accounting processes, policies, and reporting frameworks from the ground up.
  • Strong analytical mindset with experience supporting management reporting, analytics, and performance measurement.
  • Experience working with large datasets across trading, operational, and financial systems.
  • Experience with SQL, Databricks, and/or Power BI is a plus, particularly in building or supporting dashboards and analytical reporting.

Remote work is being considered for this role excluding the following states:  California, Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, and Tennessee unless willing to relocate.
