Position Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Staff Accountant II to join our accounting team. This role will support financial reporting, month-end close, budgeting, audit, and compliance activities in a government contracting environment.
The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of U.S. GAAP, experience with financial statement analysis, and familiarity with government contract structures and federal compliance requirements.
Core Functions
- Prepare and post journal entries, including accruals, prepaids, intercompany transactions, and project-based accounting entries
- Perform monthly, quarterly, and annual account reconciliations, ensuring completeness and accuracy of financial data
- Support the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes in accordance with reporting timelines
- Assist in preparation of financial statements and supporting schedules for internal and external reporting
- Perform financial statement analysis, including detailed balance sheet and income statement reviews and flux/variance analysis
- Prepare and analyze monthly and quarterly budget vs. actual reports, identifying key drivers and trends
- Partner with FP&A and program managers to support budgeting, forecasting, and contract-level financial performance
- Support accounting for government funded contracts, including cost accumulation, revenue recognition, and contract compliance
- Ensure compliance with Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR), Cost Accounting Standards (CAS), and DOE-specific contractual requirements
- Support incurred cost submissions (ICS) and assist with preparation of indirect rate calculations (e.g., fringe, overhead, G&A)
- Assist with DCAA and external audit support, including preparation of audit schedules, PBC requests, and responses to auditor inquiries
- Assist in SEC reporting processes, including support for Form 10-K and Form 10-Q filings and related disclosures (if applicable)
- Support compliance with SOX 404 internal control requirements, including documentation, testing support, and remediation of control deficiencies
- Maintain and improve accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls
- Assist with technical accounting research and documentation under U.S. GAAP
- Support special projects, including system implementations, process improvements, and ad-hoc requests from Controller and CFO.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
- 5-10 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably with government contracting.
- 2-3 years in a publicly traded company
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP
- Experience with ERP systems (e.g., Sage Intacct, NetSuite, Deltek, SAP, Oracle, or similar)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (e.g., pivot tables, XLOOKUP, data analysis)
- Experience with financial analysis, budgeting, and variance analysis
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- CPA candidate
Preferred Qualifications
- CPA
- Master’s degree in Accounting or Finance
- Sage Intacct experience
