Job Description

Tomorrow.io’s Space & Sensors team is responsible for the development of unique RF-based sensing systems – primarily radar – from architecture through implementation. The team is also responsible for the  development of corresponding spacecraft and constellations in support of Tomorrow.io’s satellite constellation, which will collect weather data to be integrated seamlessly into our existing forecasting and modeling systems, revolutionizing global weather intelligence.

We are looking for a Satellite Systems Engineer to join a cutting edge, multidisciplinary team to help us execute complex development programs. Applications include, but are not limited to, weather and climate remote sensing, navigation and situational awareness, as well as enabling the most capable weather intelligence platform in the world. As a Satellite Systems Engineer at Tomorrow.io, you will play a critical role in both leading and contributing to the design and implementation of our next generation weather satellite constellation. You will have a wide breadth of work and impact, and contribute directly to Tomorrow.io’s weather monitoring capabilities.

Please note: This is a full-time position based in our Golden, CO office. Candidates must be able to support a hybrid work plan with 2-3 days in the office per week. Occasional travel could be required for this position.

What you’ll do:

  • Support the development of Tomorrow.io payloads and satellites from initial concept through on-orbit operations to meet technical and schedule requirements.
  • Collaborate extensively across a multidisciplinary engineering and program management team.
  • Work across multiple technical programs, implementing standard Systems Engineering practices, consolidating efforts into a reduced number of technical architectures
  • Be a core contributor within a team of highly capable engineers and subcontractors to develop a constellation of satellites
  • Support spacecraft architecture definition, design trades, and specification creation
  • Develop and maintain spacecraft systems engineering artifacts including technical budgets, detailed analyses, interface documentation, etc.
  • Support verification and validation planning and execution throughout various test campaigns, including working with hardware testbeds to develop and execute functional testing for requirements verification.
  • Support the delivery and launch of satellites through mission operations, including on-orbit analysis and other technical contributions throughout the satellite operational lifetime up through on-orbit operations
  • Contribute to the company’s engineering culture by implementing best engineering practices and helping to improve on existing processes and procedures.
  • Actively engage with both internal and external customers and be a technical representative of the company

What you bring:

  • B.S. in Electrical, Mechanical, or Aerospace Engineering or equivalent field with 3+ years minimum relevant experience, which must include specific contributions to spacecraft development, test, and/or operations.
  • Experience working with complex systems involving multi-disciplinary technical teams and designs for space-based, airborne, and/or unmanned platform applications.
  • A thorough understanding of spacecraft subsystems and their associated components, with detailed design experience desired in avionics, power, propulsion, RF, thermal, mechanical, or ADCS/GNC.
  • A strong systems perspective. “Perspective” here is understanding the relationship between subsystems, requirements, ICDs, etc, in addition to non-technical factors such as cost and schedule.
  • A thorough understanding of the space environment, including orbital mechanics, rigid body dynamics, thermal environment & design methods, and/or radiation environment and design methods.
  • Be able to work in an agile environment with changing priorities focused on executing against company goals.
  • Experience with complex payloads and their associated interfaces to the spacecraft bus.
  • Experience with development of technical budgets for vehicle performance.
  • Experience with requirements/verification process.
  • Experience with modeling and simulation for spacecraft, including tools such as STK and Matlab/Python.
  • Experience with spacecraft testing from components-level through AI&T.
  • Experience with designing for Space/Radiation environments.
  • Experience providing on-orbit anomaly support, including conducting investigations and root cause analysis

So if your passion is to design a cutting edge next-generation weather satellite constellation to provide weather intelligence to the world and have fun while doing so, then this team is for you.

If you have reached this point and you are super excited but not sure you check all the boxes - we still want to speak with you! Your passion is priceless. Other things can be learned.
