As an IHS Markit Director and business leader, you will be a technical leader that has management and leadership responsibilities for a global team of Solution Specialists with a focus on the Engineering & Product Design knowledge & insights platforms. We refer to these specialists as Technical Account Managers (TAM's). Responsibilities will include establishing, managing, and leading a global team of TAM's responsible for supporting the sale of our Engineering & Product Design solutions to meet or exceed all sales targets.
Your team will be made up of Technical Account Managers and Sales Engineers supporting a wide range of responsibilities and functions with a focus on the Engineering & Product Design knowledge & insights platforms. Key areas of the sales process where you team will contribute include:

  • Qualification/discovery
  • Solution definition & solution validation
  • Value Proposition development & proposals


You and your team will be a key part of the sales team. You will be client facing. Your pre-sales expertise will be integral to close new business with focus in two primary areas; (1) solution sales support to expand and grow our opportunities in the existing account base and (2) solution sales support to position and validate IHS Markit Engineering & Product Design solutions to new customers.
In all cases you and your team will be focused heavily on discovery, assessments, and analysis to identify and validate solution opportunities. You and your team will be responsible for defining and validating the appropriate solutions, as well as supporting the development of a solid value proposition. During these strategic sales, you will be the experts that demonstrate and validate an integrated IHS Markit engineering solution. In most all cases you will be working with executives and C-level people.
The Engineering & Product Design Technical sales leader will help to grow the Product Design business through leadership in the following areas:
Technical Sales Leadership:

  • Lead a team to position and sell the Product Design solution set to address client business objectives, following proven solution selling methodologies
  • Develop a close partnership between your team and the Sales organization to identify & qualify opportunities, define and validate solutions, and develop business cases and proposals that speak to the relevant engineering persona and vertical market.
  • Follow solution selling methodology through:
    • Value assessments to discover and expose solution opportunities and understand economic impact
    • Define and validate creative solutions focused on customer value
    • Business development practices to communicate solution value and ROI; the economic impact of the solution


General Duties:

  • Manage , develop and grow a global technical sales organization to support the growing Engineering & Product Design business
  • Hiring, developing and enablement of all team members, including performance management, career development and continued performance improvement
  • Provide Sales colleagues enablement and on-boarding
  • Work with the Marketing teams to drive vertical specific messaging and campaigns
  • Monitor industry competitors and adjust messaging accordingly
  • Provide the members of the Sales team with unique insights into the business issues faced by the client.
  • Intimately understand the customer base; both vertical industries, and related persona
  • Ability to conduct value assessments, develop partnerships, and drive high-value engagements with customers
  • Understand and demonstrate the benefits and features of IHS Markit Engineering & Product Design solutions, and complimentary products and services
  • Collaborate closely with the Sales team and Business Line throughout the sales process
  • Develop and maintain relationships with customers in the industry, and in relevant persona areas
  • Support internal trainings with Sales and Customer Care
  • Frequently interacts with Executive level customers and sources, may advise and negotiate on matters of importance
  • Frequently interacts with senior management and / or functional peer groups and managers
  • Works with Product Mgmt to identify potential solutions and contribute to business case within multiple product lines
  • Responsible for budget recommendations within a functional group, and ability to manage multiple projects and/or direct reports
  • Develop and initiate business and operational vision that drive organization, process and technology improvements in support of new and changing requirements
  • Effective and timely communication with both internal and external customers around business metrics, collaboration and customer needs
  • Continuously and proactively strive to improve Customer relationships within area of responsibility
  • Proactive leadership to maximize organizational effectiveness through improving engagement and skill sets of team members

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in an Engineering Field.
  • Degree or equivalent industry experience in computer information systems.
  • Master's degree preferred
  • 10+ years in technical solution sales management in the engineering and product design space
  • A solid understanding of engineering workflows in a variety of industries
  • Proven track record of delivering trusted leadership in technical solution selling


Other Skills:

  • Must be self-motivating with the ability to drive sales of high-value solutions
  • Solid performer in MS Office, Excel and PPT
  • Excellent client relations and client management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team in support of strategic and large value accounts
  • Experienced interfacing and understanding the value of engineering tools such as PLM, CAD and Document Systems such as Documentum, SharePoint, etc.

  • For work locations in the state of Colorado, the anticipated minimum base salary for this role would be $110,400. Compensation will be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, and abilities of the applicant.
