Compensation: $75,000 - $90,000

Job Summary: The Manager of Safety, Training & Compliance will work directly with the AHR Executive Team, Senior Management and internal departments at each of its subsidiaries to provide oversight, training, and resources as they relate to safety and compliance. The position will be heavily involved in the development and implementation of safety programs at our owned and operated railroads as well as assisting non railroad entities and the company’s contracting division with contracted projects.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:- Support and provide guidance to AHR Safety Managers/Specialists (or equivalent positions) and Committees as needed.
- Act as the Safety Manager/Specialist for AHR subsidiaries that do not have a designated individual.
- In coordination with AHR and Senior Management, develop, implement and support safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations with special emphasis on FRA, OSHA, DOT, etc. Policies and procedures include Safety, Air Brake, Emergency Preparedness Plans, best operating practices, MOW rules, etc.
- Analyze and provide insight and suggestions to current company policy and operations as they relate to safety and compliance to maintain a safe workplace.
- In coordination with AHR management and Safety Managers/Specialist (or equivalent), develop and maintain comprehensive safety training standards and matrices that meet or exceed the applicable company and regulatory requirements.
- Deliver training to employees at all levels based on the above standards and in coordination with the individual Safety Manager.
- Conduct and maintain records on safety and regulatory training, safety-compliance audits and inspections at all AHR owned and operated properties.
- Perform as the FRA and OSHA Accident/Incident Reporting Officer for all AHR properties.
- Provide guidance and assistance to the subsidiaries during accident/incident investigations and support the creation of any necessary documentation for those investigations.
- Provide guidance, training and/or necessary materials to 3rd party consulting clients to support or implement safety and compliance related programs, i.e., operating rules books, audit/inspection documentation, policies/procedures, emergency response plans, incident investigations, Incident Reporting Officer, etc.
- Stay well-informed of regulatory compliance changes for railroad, DOT, and other applicable industry best practices.
- Participate and / or perform regulatory agency inspections and respond to findings.
- Assist in future acquisitions by participating in the due diligence process and auditing the potential company’s current safety standards and incidents.
- Assist operations management in the review of contract documents related to specific safety requirements.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Most time spent in an office setting.
- Work in and around rail yards and industrial settings.
- Travel 8-12 times per year.
QualificationsEducation, Skill & Work Experience Requirements:
- Proven experience as a Safety and Compliance Officer or similar role in an industrial setting a must.
- Proven experience as a Safety and Compliance Officer or similar role in the railroad industry preferred.
- Proven experience with conducting accident investigations.
- Proficiency and knowledge of industry laws, regulations, standards and best practice.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex regulations.
- Excellent communication and training skills.
- Detail-oriented with a strong commitment to safety.
