Overview:

The Revenue Recognition Manager plays a pivotal role in managing and overseeing the revenue recognition process for revenue contracts, ensuring compliance with US GAAP (ASC 606), internal policies, and controls. This role emphasizes collaboration with cross-functional teams including FP&A, Sales, Legal, GL Accounting, and Deal Desk to ensure accurate revenue recognition across varied licensing models. The manager will promote consistent revenue recognition practices through stakeholder engagement, training and development, and continuous process improvement. This role reports to the Director, Revenue Accounting and serves as a key business fiduciary in supporting financial integrity and operational excellence.

What you will do:

  • Manage and oversee the revenue recognition process for revenue contracts to ensure all revenue is recognized in compliance with US GAAP and company policies.
  • Analyze and interpret complex contracts, including perpetual software, SaaS, term-based software, and professional services to determine appropriate revenue recognition treatments under ASC 606 and internal policies.
  • Review significant signed contracts for compliance with ASC 606 and internal revenue recognition policies to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting; prepare technical write-ups and liaise with external auditors.
  • Collaborate with Deal Desk, Sales, Legal, and Finance teams to gather information for accurate revenue recognition and support complex revenue areas with contractual terms and deal structures.
  • Coordinate with Sales, Legal, and other departments to resolve revenue recognition issues and ensure all terms and conditions are accurately reflected in financial reporting.
  • Provide guidance to internal teams on revenue recognition requirements and best practices; promote training and development across stakeholder groups.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of revenue recognition standards, internal controls, and accounting policies; ensure consistent application and promote continuous improvement.
  • Review and validate revenue recognition entries in financial systems (e.g., NetSuite ARM) for accuracy and completeness.
  • Prepare and review revenue-related reports and presentations for large and complex contracts; support FP&A with workpapers, ad hoc analysis, and inputs.
  • Lead or participate in special projects and process improvements related to revenue recognition and accounting operations.
  • Manage a team of revenue accountants, offering guidance and support in their daily activities; conduct performance reviews and identify training and development needs.

What we are looking for:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting; CPA or equivalent certification preferred.
  • Minimum of 7+ years of experience in revenue accounting and recognition under ASC 606 and US GAAP, including software licensing models transitioning from perpetual to subscription.
  • Minimum of 5+ years of management and leadership experience, including team development and performance management.
  • Public accounting auditing experience required.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems; NetSuite ARM experience preferred.
  • Advanced Excel skills required; familiarity with alteryx and automated revenue recognition tools is a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate, implement, and leverage AI-driven solutions to streamline contract reviews, extract key revenue recognition terms, and strengthen compliance with ASC 606 is a plus.
  • Strong technical accounting acumen with ability to comprehend and apply guidance to complex scenarios.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills with ability to influence and engage stakeholders across functions.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex accounting issues.
  • Experience in identifying and implementing process improvements for increased efficiency and compliance.
  • Commitment to regulatory compliance and continuous improvement in revenue accounting practices.
