Job Summary & Responsibilities
  • Break news on major employers, publicly traded companies, technology firms and energy companies across Colorado.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with CEOs, executives, investors, analysts, entrepreneurs, government officials and industry experts.
  • Cover topics such as earnings reports/calls, SEC filings, mergers and acquisitions, capital investments, workforce trends, facility expansions, layoffs and leadership changes.
  • Identify emerging trends in technology, energy, innovation and corporate strategy before competitors.
  • Develop enterprise stories, profiles and trend pieces that provide context and analysis beyond daily news coverage.
  • Use public records, data and financial documents to uncover stories and support reporting.
  • Consistently meet deadlines while managing a demanding and fast-moving beat.
  • Use networking events, social media platforms and other community-building outlets to expand and fortify a source base and audience.
  • Attend newsgathering activities, interview opportunities and events in the community as needed.
  • Collaborate with editors, staff photographer and events team on special reports, awards programs, panel discussions and live events.
  • Participate in social media to extend the reach of coverage.
  • Work collaboratively with other newsroom staffers to maximize the impact and accessibility of stories reported.
  • Meet or exceed goals related to audience engagement.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, communication or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Three or more years of reporting experience, preferably in business journalism.
  • Proven experience and motivation for building and maintaining an active audience and a strong source base.
  • Solid understanding of news writing, journalistic ethics, accuracy and story structure.
  • Proven excellence in reporting and writing, balancing daily and long-term assignments. 
  • Desire and ability to break news and to identify newsworthy events and sources.
  • Strong analytical and investigative interviewing skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Ability to relate comfortably to a wide range of people, in person, on the phone and online.
  • Ability to leverage relationships with sources to deliver content that differentiates the organization from competitors.
  • Knowledge of business principles is essential.
  • Denver community experience is a plus.
  • Comfort with on-stage or on-camera presentations is helpful.
  • Proficient with MS Office Products.
  • Proficient with Web-Based Communication Platforms (Teams, Zoom, Webex, etc.).
