Who we are:

We're transforming one of the world’s oldest industries with cutting-edge technology and an innovative approach. Backed by top-tier investors and recognized by Time as one of the "best Inventions of 2024" and Fast Company as one of 2024's "Next Big Things in Tech", Electra is scaling rapidly, and we're looking for bold, driven individuals to help us reshape the future of iron production. If you're ready to make a real impact in a company that's redefining heavy industry for a cleaner, smarter world, we want to hear from you.

What you will do:

As a Reliability and Test Engineer II, you are responsible for assuring product quality and process reliability of Electra’s electrochemical-hydrometallurgical process for producing high-purity iron.

Responsibilities include:

  • Design and execute test plans to assess electrochemical and hydrometallurgical process reliability and optimization
  • Define, collect, and analyze KPI’s to optimize processes and assure consistent performance
  • Use your experience in the field of Test Engineering to define learning objectives, design test campaigns, collect data and draw conclusions regarding the efficacy of Electra’s electrochemical and mechanical cell components
  • Serves as quality/reliability advocate throughout process development and across functions assuring that standards are met, driving improvement, and conducting detailed failure investigation
  • Work closely with the design and operations teams to build and execute test campaigns that support data-driven improvement

What we need you to bring to the team

  • Bachelor’s degree in metallurgical engineering, chemical engineering, or other related engineering discipline
  • 2+ years of experience in Test & Reliability Engineering (excludes internship, co-ops and other school projects)
  • Demonstrates growing professional expertise in test and reliability engineering, applying company protocols to troubleshoot and resolve diverse technical and system-level challenges
  • Uses experimental design principles and data-driven approaches to plan, execute, and refine test campaigns with a focus on speed, accuracy, and reproducibility
  • Applies deep understanding of verification & validation, DFSS (Design for Six Sigma), and DFM (Design for Manufacturability) to ensure product reliability and manufacturability from early-stage development through scale-up
  • Leverages strong statistical analysis skills for test planning, data collection, analysis, and clear presentation of results to technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Innovates and adapts test and prototyping setups to meet evolving technical needs, often building or refining fixtures, instrumentation, and procedures in-house
  • Works on problems of moderate scope, conducting structured root cause analyses and failure investigations with a strong emphasis on quality and safety
  • Operates with increasing autonomy in executing and documenting tests, interpreting results, and recommending design or process improvements.
  • Builds cross-functional working relationships with engineering, R&D, production, and EH&S teams to align on reliability goals, test protocols, and performance standards
  • Communicates test findings clearly through structured reports, technical summaries, and direct collaboration with senior engineers and leadership
  • Applies excellent interpersonal and communication skills to influence decisions and align test outcomes with broader business goals
  • Brings a strong safety mindset with familiarity in chemical and heavy industry safety protocols, including hazardous materials and equipment
  • Shows a strong interest in hands-on work involving battery technology, electrowinning cells, and extractive metallurgical processes
  • Eager to gain direct experience in testing and reliability of high-risk, industrial-scale processes in an agile and high-growth startup environment

What we want you to bring to the team:

  • A master’s degree in metallurgical engineering, chemical engineering, or other related engineering discipline
  • 3+ years Test & Reliability Engineering (excludes internships, co-ops and other school projects)
  • Plans and executes moderately complex test protocols independently, while escalating or collaborating on critical decisions or failure modes.
  • Applies working knowledge of test and reliability concepts—such as experimental design, failure analysis, and statistical data interpretation—to improve product performance
  • Demonstrates excellent documentation and reporting skills; prepares clear, actionable test summaries to inform design and manufacturing decisions
  • Exercises increasing independence in test setup, data collection, troubleshooting, and analysis; work is reviewed primarily at major milestones or when issues arise

Compensation:

  • The anticipated starting pay range for this position is $85,000- $95,000 and may be more or less depending upon skills, experience, and education.
