Join our dynamic Reinsurance Operations team in the Life Actuarial department as a Reinsurance Analyst Senior! This is an exciting opportunity to play a vital role in leading reinsurance processes, from claims processing and treaty administration to financial reporting and audit support. You'll be responsible for managing reinsurance risk, ensuring regulatory compliance, and collaborating with business partners to drive effective decision-making. This role is remote eligible in the continental U.S. with occasional business travel. However, individuals residing within a 60-mile radius of a USAA office will be expected to work on-site four days per week.
Relocation assistance is not available for this position.
What you'll do:
Administers complex reinsurance, validates data, files, systems, and identifies discrepancies and related audit support.
Resolves complex issues and navigates obstacles to deliver work product.
Prepares complex reinsurance financial, management and regulatory reports.
May draft reinsurance treaties, Requests for Proposals (RFPs), and Letter of Agreement (LOAs), with the ability to negotiate terms under direct supervision.
Administers complex retention to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, company limits, and reinsurance treaty requirements.
Demonstrates an understanding of key regulations impacting the reinsurance process.
Collaborates and maintains strong relationships with business partners and may perform in an advisory capacity to operational business leaders on matters pertaining to business initiatives or strategies.
Develops and maintains processes, procedures and tools.
Facilitates and reviews internal controls to ensure an effective and efficient reinsurance system and financial system.
Performs reinsurance transactions, analysis, reconciliations and research with knowledge of GAAP/ STAT accounting and other regulatory requirements.
Understands key regulatory implications that impact Reinsurance and resolves escalated accounting issues of a unique nature.
Leads and serves as a subject matter expert on special projects/audits related to reinsurance administration systems, legal contracts/treaties, new product launches and other initiatives.
Ensures reinsurer and compliance audit requests are completed and oversees coordination of responses to internal and external audit, and reinsurance business partners.
Serves as a resource and mentor to team members on all reinsurance related processes.
Reviews the work of less experienced team members and provides guidance and feedback when issues arise.
Proactively assists team leads and management with delegation of work, including support on escalated issues, project work, and any reinsurance trends or issues.
Approaches workload with an innovative perspective and makes recommendations to enhance efficiencies and assists in the identification of process improvement initiatives that further departmental goals and objectives.
Ensures risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.
What you have:
Bachelor’s degree OR 4 years of related experience (in addition to the minimum years of experience required) may be substituted in lieu of degree.
6 or more years of experience as an analyst.
What sets you apart:
4+ years of experience with Life Insurance and/or Annuity products.
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Statistics, Finance, Mathematics, Economics, or Accounting.
4+ years of extensive experience working with Life and/or Annuity reinsurance administration.
4+ years of the ability to read and interpret Life and/or Annuity reinsurance treaty language, and to apply it appropriately.
4+ years of intermediate Microsoft Excel skills experience.
2+ years of Visual Basic skills experience.
2+ years of experience in Project Management.
2+ years of basic knowledge of accounting.
2+ years of basic Query, XML, and/or SQL skills.
2+ years of experience with Oracle systems.
Compensation range: The salary range for this position is: $93,770 - $179,240.

Compensation: USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual salary for this role may vary by location.
Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
