As a Reinsurance Accountant, you will play an important role in ensuring a timely and accurate preparation of financial statements by completing a wide range of accounting tasks such as recording and reconciling monthly financial statement data, providing monthly general ledger variance analysis, facilitating audit inquiries, preparing various state-mandated filings, and promoting a teamwork environment.

What you’ll do- Manage day-to-day accounting activities of a reinsurance company, including intercompany relationships. Prepare monthly and quarterly activity reports to enable accounting, reporting and cash settlements.
- Coordinate and manage effective communication and flow of information between various departments within Hagerty, the Company’s accounting manager in Bermuda, and various external parties including brokers, rating agencies, and reinsurers.
- Ensure accurate and timely month-end close, including preparation and posting of journal entries, accruals, and various reconciliations.
- Prepare and provide analytical commentary for flux/variance analysis across revenue, expenses, and key balance sheet accounts.
- Support external and internal audit processes by providing schedules, documentation, and process explanations.
- Maintain and enhance internal controls, ensure proper documentation of accounting policies and procedures, and support SOX compliance.
- Assist with special projects and ad hoc reporting as needed.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and cross-functionally in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Excellent attention to detail, organizational, and time-management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, strong problem-solving and analytical skills projects and meet deadlines.
- Strong communication and relationship management skills.
- Solid understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Highly proficient in Microsoft Excel and MS Office products.
- Experience with ERP systems (Workday, PeopleSoft).
- Familiarity with SOX compliance and audit procedures.
- Experience with statutory accounting principles (SAP), reinsurance accounting, Managing General Agent/insurance carrier relationships is preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Mathematics, or related field.
- Proven accounting experience in a financial services organization, preferably with an insurance company.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, experienced in MS Excel.
- This role can be worked from any U.S. remote location.
- Familiarity with public company requirements, including Sarbanes Oxley and key regulations, if applicable. For SOX compliant roles, responsible for designing, executing, and documenting internal controls where they have been identified as owners to prevent errors in financial reporting, processes, and business operations. Including attestation to the completeness, accuracy, and compliance of all financial reporting data, where applicable.
