It all started with an idea at Block in 2013. Initially built to take the pain out of peer-to-peer payments, Cash App has gone from a simple product with a single purpose to a dynamic ecosystem, developing unique financial products, including Afterpay/Clearpay, to provide a better way to send, spend, invest, borrow and save to our 50+ million monthly active customers. We want to redefine the world's relationship with money to make it more relatable, instantly available, and universally accessible.
Today, Cash App has thousands of employees working globally across office and remote locations, with a culture geared toward innovation, collaboration and impact. We've been a distributed team since day one, and many of our roles can be done remotely from the countries where Cash App operates. No matter the location, we tailor our experience to ensure our employees are creative, productive, and happy.
The Role
We're looking for a seasoned Quantitative Market Researcher to join Block's Market Insights team, primarily supporting Cash App and other product lines. This person will lead high-impact strategic research initiatives, including audience segmentation, market opportunity analysis, and brand tracking. You'll serve as a core methodologist and strategic partner across product, marketing, and data science teams, helping shape Block's roadmap through customer insight. This role combines deep research expertise with emerging technology, leveraging AI and automation to accelerate insights and scale the impact of market research.
You Will
- Lead strategic research efforts such as audience segmentation, market sizing, and brand tracking to inform key business decisions.
- Design and execute audience segmentation frameworks that guide marketing and product development strategies.
- Conduct market sizing and opportunity assessments to support business planning, product strategy, and go-to-market initiatives.
- Leverage population-level datasets (e.g., U.S. Census, syndicated panels) to enrich sample design, validate findings, and ground insights in demographic trends.
- Design and manage Cash App's brand health program, including survey instruments, metric frameworks, and longitudinal tracking studies.
- Lead cross-functional quantitative research with teams like Product, Marketing, Data Science, and Finance and Strategy to uncover insights that drive product and customer experience innovation.
- Create actionable insights and recommendations from brand and strategic data to inform decisions.
- Be an integral part of developing robust sampling and weighting methodologies for various populations and projects, and streamlining the quantitative research process via automation and standardization.
- Integrate AI techniques into research practices such as using LLM-powered tools for summarizing and generating insights.
- Work with data science teams to combine primary research data with behavioral/log data for richer insights.
- Present insights to executive stakeholders and influence strategic decision-making.
You Have
- 8+ years of experience in quantitative market research, consumer insights, or related field.
- Expertise in applying end-to-end survey methodology, e.g., survey design (including sampling and weighting, bias correction), principled questionnaire construction, instrumentation, and standard methodologies, to company, business, and product goals.
- Strong understanding of descriptive and inferential statistics, such as hypothesis testing, experimentation, correlation vs. causation, and regression modeling.
- Proven experience conducting segmentation studies, market sizing, and audience profiling in a complex or regulated category.
- Deep understanding of population-level datasets (e.g., census, panel data) and their application in strategic research.
- Ability to design and lead foundational market studies (e.g., market entry, growth forecasting, need-state exploration).
- Hands-on experience with programming languages (i.e. SQL, SPSS, R) commonly used for data analysis and visualization.
- Proven ability to scope and manage research projects, transforming ambiguity into clear plans that flex with deadlines and priorities.
- Applied knowledge of and openness to using AI tools (i.e. ChatGPT, Claude, etc.) in research for automation, synthesis and insight acceleration.
- Familiarity in financial services, fintech or payments industry.
