The Senior Project Manager – Panel Systems leads large-scale, complex commercial glazing projects with contract values between $3 million and $15 million, overseeing multiple concurrent projects from award through final closeout. Projects in this role include large-scale, stick-built curtain wall and storefront systems, ACM panels, and other facade products / systems. This role requires strong technical expertise in commercial glazing systems, the ability to manage executive-level client relationships, coordinate complex fabrication and installation schedules, and mentor junior project management staff. The Senior Project Manager – Panel Systems is a key contributor to operational excellence and profitability within the project management department.
Key Responsibilities
- Independently manage a portfolio of large, complex commercial glazing projects with contract values between $3 million and $15 million, ensuring on-time delivery and financial performance.
- Serve as the senior point of contact for general contractors, construction executives, architects, and owners on high-profile commercial glazing projects.
- Lead project kickoff meetings, establish project controls, and develop detailed project execution plans for stick-built curtain wall, storefront, and specialty glazing systems.
- Coordinate fabrication, delivery, and field installation schedules with fabricators and suppliers to keep projects on schedule.
- Monitor financial performance across all active projects, providing accurate cost-to-complete forecasts and variance analysis.
- Oversee preparation and approval of submittals, shop drawings, RFIs, and change orders for multiple projects simultaneously.
- Manage performance mock-up testing and code-required field/lab testing as required by project specifications.
- Mentor and coach Assistant Project Managers and Project Managers, providing technical and contractual guidance.
- Coordinate with the estimating team during bidding to provide constructability input and project-specific pricing strategies.
- Identify and manage project risks, developing mitigation strategies to protect project margins and schedules.
- Lead project closeout processes including final inspections, punch list completion, warranty submissions, and final billing.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with key general contractor accounts to support business development efforts.
- Participate in division leadership meetings and contribute to process improvements within the project management function.
Education: Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field, or 5+ years of direct experience in commercial glazing project management in lieu of a degree.
Experience: Minimum 5+ years of progressive project management experience in commercial glazing or specialty construction, with demonstrated experience managing projects in the $3 million to $15 million range. Experience with ACM and other façade products / systems.
Skills & Competencies:
- Strong technical knowledge of commercial glazing systems, including curtain wall, storefront, window wall, and specialty glazing systems.
- Advanced ability to interpret construction documents, specifications, and architectural details.
- Proven leadership and mentoring ability with experience developing junior team members.
- Strong financial acumen including budget management, cost forecasting, and margin analysis.
- Excellent negotiation and client relationship management skills at the executive level.
- Proficiency in project management platforms such as Procore, Viewpoint, or equivalent ERP systems.
- Experience with unitized or panelized curtain wall systems, factory-fabricated panel assemblies, and crane/rigging logistics for large panel installation is a plus.
Preferred: PMP certification, LEED AP credential, or equivalent industry certification. Experience with design-assist or design-build delivery methods. Direct experience managing unitized projects is a plus but not required, as the majority of projects in this role are stick-built.
