About Supabase

Supabase is the Postgres development platform, built by developers for developers. We provide a complete backend solution including Database, Auth, Storage, Edge Functions, Realtime, and Vector Search. All services are deeply integrated and designed for growth.

About the Role

We’re looking for a Product and Privacy Counsel to join our Legal team and partner closely with Product, Engineering, Security, Go To Market, and Leadership.

This person will help Supabase ship products faster while managing legal, privacy, regulatory, compliance and open source risk thoughtfully. You’ll work on product counseling, open source licensing, privacy and compliance reviews, product launch guidance, customer facing terms, and internal legal frameworks that help the company scale.

This is a strong fit for someone who enjoys working with technical teams, is comfortable in ambiguity, and can turn complex legal issues into practical business guidance.

What You’ll Be Responsible For
  • Act as primary counsel for product and engineering teams from concept through launch

  • Advise on legal issues related to product development, data usage, privacy, security, AI, integrations, and APIs

  • Partner with Engineering and Product on privacy, AI and compliance questions

  • Build scalable product launch review processes, legal checklists, internal guidance, and playbooks

  • Own and drive, global privacy, data protection, and AI governance strategy, including regulatory compliance across relevant jurisdictions

  • Advise on global privacy, regulatory, and compliance considerations related to Supabase products

  • Support customer and GTM teams on privacy related contract issues, product terms, security and privacy questions, and enterprise risk reviews

  • Help develop and maintain legal frameworks for AI and data usage, product claims, third party integrations, and partner and customer facing commitments

  • Partner cross functionally with Security, Finance, Product, Engineering, Sales, Marketing and People as Supabase scales

  • Serve as a key legal voice on cross-functional leadership decisions, including on matters of regulatory risk, privacy posture, and product strategy

What You Have
  • 8 to 12+ years of legal experience, including meaningful in-house privacy counsel experience preferably at global SaaS organizations handling sensitive customer data

  • Strong experience advising technical product, SaaS, cloud, developer tools, data, AI, security, or infrastructure teams

  • Working knowledge of privacy, data protection, and product compliance

  • Ability to translate legal risk into practical, business minded recommendations

  • Strong written communication and async collaboration skills

  • Experience building scalable legal processes, templates, playbooks, or product review frameworks

  • Licensed to practice law in at least one jurisdiction

  • Track record of operating with meaningful autonomy and contributing to legal function leadership

Nice to Haves
  • Experience at a globally operating open source, developer tools, cloud infrastructure, database, AI, data, or security company

  • Privacy certification such as CIPP/E or CIPP/US

  • Experience with AI and data governance, model and data usage rights, or emerging product compliance issues

  • Experience supporting enterprise SaaS customers or security and privacy reviews

What You Are
  • Business minded and pragmatic

  • Product oriented, not just risk oriented

  • Clear, concise, and comfortable communicating with technical teams

  • Self directed and comfortable working async

  • Good at simplifying complexity

  • Comfortable with ambiguity and fast moving product decisions

  • High judgment, low ego, and willing to build the practical systems that help legal scale

What We Offer
  • Fully Remote

We hire globally. We believe you can do your best work from anywhere. There are no Supabase offices, but we provide a WeWork membership or co-working allowance you can use anywhere in the world.

  • ESOP

Every team member receives ESOP (equity ownership) in the company. We want everyone to share in the upside of what we’re building together.

  • Tech Allowance

Use this budget to set up your ideal work environment—laptop, monitor, headphones, or whatever helps you do your best work.

  • Health Benefits

Supabase covers 100% of health insurance for employees and 80% for dependents, wherever you are. Your wellbeing and your family’s health are important to us.

  • Annual Off-Sites

Once a year, the entire company gathers in a new city for a week of connection, collaboration, and fun. It’s a highlight of our year.

  • Flexible Work

We operate asynchronously and trust you to manage your own time. You know what needs to be done and when.

  • Professional Development

Every team member receives an annual education allowance to spend on learning—courses, books, conferences, or anything that supports your growth.

About the Team

Supabase was born-remote and open-source-first. We believe our globally distributed team is our secret weapon in building tools developers love.

  • 280+ team members

  • 55+ countries

  • 20+ languages spoken

  • $500M raised

  • 500,000+ community members

We move fast, build in public, and use what we ship. If it’s in your project, we probably use it in ours too. We believe deeply in the open-source ecosystem and strive to support—not replace—existing tools and communities.

Hiring Process

We keep things simple, async-friendly, and respectful of your time:

  1. Apply – Our team will review your application.

  2. Intro Call – A short video chat to get to know each other.

  3. Interviews – Up to four calls with:

    • Team Leads

    • Future teammates

    • Someone cross-functional from product, growth, or engineering (depending on the role)

    • Someone from our leadership/founding team

  4. Decision – We may follow up with a final question or go straight to offer.

All communication is remote and we aim to move fast.
