Summary

The Product Owner will help modernize claims capabilities across the Commercial P&C claims lifecycle, with a focus on workflow improvement, intelligent automation, operational efficiency, and scalable digital solutions. This role is not limited to core claims platform ownership; it will shape capabilities across claims intake, triage, assignment, document and data intelligence, decision support, payments, recovery, litigation, vendor workflows, and shared claims operations.

The ideal candidate brings claims domain knowledge, product ownership discipline, systems thinking, and a strong ability to translate operational pain points into practical technology solutions. Experience with claims platforms such as Guidewire Claim Center, Duck Creek, Majesco, or similar is helpful, but the role is broader than core platform configuration and is intended for candidates who can drive claims innovation, workflow modernization, and cross-functional delivery.

Essential FunctionsProduct Strategy and Roadmap
  • Partner with Claims, Underwriting, Operations, Legal/Litigation, Finance, Technology, and the Product Manager to define the claims product vision, strategy, roadmap, and business outcomes.
  • Own roadmap sequencing across claims capabilities, balancing quick wins with foundational improvements in workflow consistency, data quality, governance, usability, performance, and reuse.
  • Identify and prioritize opportunities for workflow automation, straight-through processing, document and data intelligence, platform integration, and AI-enabled decision support.
  • Use product and operational analytics to guide prioritization and measure success through KPIs such as cycle time, touchless rates, leakage, reserve accuracy, adjuster productivity, adoption, and customer satisfaction.
  • Apply systems thinking to assess upstream and downstream impacts across Claims, Underwriting, Finance, Operations, and Technology.
Backlog and Requirements
  • Own and continuously refine the claims product backlog based on business value, regulatory needs, stakeholder feedback, dependencies, team capacity, usage data, and product outcomes.
  • Translate business needs into clear features, acceptance criteria, process flows, business rules, workflow requirements, test scenarios, and solution direction.
  • Work with architecture, engineering, data, AI/ML, QA, and business SMEs to break complex claims and automation needs into scalable, deliverable increments.
  • Use modern product practices, including Now / Next / Later planning, to communicate priorities and maintain delivery focus.
Stakeholder Collaboration and Change Adoption
  • Serve as the primary product contact for claims solution needs across claim types, lines of business, and shared claims functions.
  • Lead discovery sessions and workshops to understand workflows, pain points, decision-support needs, process gaps, and automation opportunities.
  • Align stakeholders on business process, technical constraints, dependencies, implementation tradeoffs, and adoption impacts.
  • Partner with training and change management teams to support rollout readiness and adoption of new capabilities.
  • Promote a customer- and adjuster-centric mindset that improves usability, consistency, efficiency, and ease of doing business.
Sprint Planning and Delivery Execution
  • Lead sprint planning and backlog refinement by articulating sprint goals, priorities, expected business value, and readiness criteria.
  • Ensure features are refined before development with sufficient business context, workflow logic, acceptance criteria, and validation needs.
  • Partner with delivery leads, engineers, analysts, designers, QA, data, and AI/ML teams to deliver high-quality releases.
  • Participate in standups, sprint reviews, and retrospectives to monitor progress, remove blockers, validate completed work, and drive continuous improvement.
  • Coordinate user acceptance testing and confirm solutions meet claims needs, acceptance criteria, and quality standards.
Qualifications / Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • 5+ years of experience as a Product Owner, Technical Product Owner, Senior Business Analyst, Product Manager, or similar role.
  • 2-3+ years of hands-on claims experience with exposure to end-to-end claims operations.
  • Experience delivering claims transformation, modernization, platform replacement, workflow automation, or operational improvement initiatives strongly preferred.
  • Experience delivering AI-enabled or intelligent-workflow solutions, such as intelligent intake, document/image intelligence, automated triage, fraud/SIU detection, or decision support, strongly preferred.
  • Experience with claims platforms such as Guidewire ClaimCenter, Duck Creek, Majesco, or similar valued; Guidewire ClaimCenter experience preferred but not required.
  • 2-3+ years of P&C insurance experience, preferably Commercial and/or E&S.
  • Experience working with engineering, architecture, data, QA, and business teams in Agile delivery environments required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Strong understanding of P&C claims operations, including FNOL, triage, coverage evaluation, adjudication, reserving, payments, recovery/subrogation, litigation, vendor/TPA management, and closure.
  • Working knowledge of AI and intelligent automation use cases in claims, including related data, governance, responsible-AI, and change-management considerations.
  • Strong product acumen, systems thinking, analytical ability, problem solving, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
