We’re Blue River, a team of innovators driven to create intelligent machinery that solves monumental problems for our customers. We empower our customers – farmers, construction crews, and foresters - to implement safer and more sustainable solutions, driving increased profitability with less reliance on scarce labor. We believe that focusing on the small stuff – pixel-by-pixel and task-by-task - leads to big gains.
Blue River Technology aligns with John Deere’s vision to “innovate on behalf of humanity” by quickly identifying and solving high-value, high-uncertainty challenges in AI, machine learning, computer vision, and robotics. BRT acts as a research and development flywheel, building not only new products but also new platforms that reliably create value for both Deere and its customers. From fully autonomous machines to highly precise farming equipment, BRT and Deere are partnering to create technical breakthroughs in industries like agriculture and construction.
Our people are at the heart of what we do. Through cross-disciplinary collaboration, this mission-driven team is eager to define the new frontier of robotics. We are always asking hard questions, rapidly iterating, and getting our boots in the field to figure it out. We won’t give up until we’ve made a tangible and positive impact on the planet!
Blue River Technology is based in Santa Clara, CA.
Summary
We are seeking an experienced Product Manager to join our Platform organization. We build the foundational components and cloud services that help internal program teams launch, operate, and continuously improve Intelligent Machines, without each program rebuilding the same core capabilities. In this role, you’ll own one or more Platform offerings and/or cross-cutting capabilities across our portfolio (assignment based on priorities and fit). You’ll work at the intersection of robotics software, ML systems, fleet operations, and developer experience, turning ambiguous needs into clear product bets, production-ready releases, and capabilities teams actually adopt in the field.
- Employment Type: Full-Time
- Work Location: Remote in the United States
- Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
Job Responsibilities
A combination, not necessarily all-inclusive, of the following:
- Product Ownership: Own strategy, roadmap, and outcomes for one or more Platform offerings or cross-cutting capabilities.
- Customer Discovery: Build tight feedback loops with program teams and engineers to understand real constraints in the field (messy data, variable environments, operational risk).
- Requirements & Tradeoffs: Translate problems into crisp requirements, success metrics, and prioritized backlogs; make explicit tradeoffs across speed, reuse, reliability, and customization.
- Cross-Functional Execution: Partner with engineering and design to ship iteratively—APIs, tooling, workflows, and user experiences that teams adopt and keep using.
- Adoption & Rollout: Drive onboarding, documentation, enablement, and rollout plans; measure adoption and unblock teams during integration.
- Platform Quality: Set the bar for production readiness (reliability, observability, supportability, and backward compatibility) and prevent “it works in the lab” releases.
- Portfolio Alignment: Coordinate dependencies across Platform and program teams; reduce duplication and converge on shared building blocks where it matters.
- Metrics & Outcomes: Define and track product metrics and use them to drive priorities and investment.
- Stakeholder Communication: Keep stakeholders aligned by clearly articulating narratives, status updates, decisions, and risks, especially when priorities conflict or timelines shift.
Required Experience and Skills
- 5+ years of proven experience as a Product Manager, with a strong track record of successfully launching and managing complex technical products.
- Deep understanding of robotics, autonomous systems, and machine learning technologies.
- Familiarity with the areas of perception, environmental understanding, machine learning, path planning, and actuation.
- Demonstrated experience as a product leader in designing, developing, or managing embedded technologies and software solutions for edge devices or autonomous systems.
- Bachelor's or advanced degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field.
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Familiarity with software development methodologies (Agile, Scrum, etc.).
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to navigate complex technical challenges.
- Excellent communication skills, with the capability to convey technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Preferred Experience and Skills
- Previous involvement in projects related to autonomous systems, machine learning, computer vision, or artificial intelligence.
- Experience building platform products used by other engineering teams: clear APIs/SDKs, documentation, onboarding paths, and a track record of driving adoption without mandates.
- Familiarity with fleet operations/telemetry/incident or triage workflows/OTA updates/remote diagnostics.
- Experience with cloud platforms and data-intensive systems (pipelines, storage, observability, analytics).
- Familiarity with cloud computing platforms and services for edge computing and remote device management.
- Prior experience collaborating with cross-functional teams and leading product development efforts.
- A track record of innovation or research contributions in the field of autonomous robotics.
