ABOUT SUREPASS
SurePass is the national standard for authority verification, delivering mobile-first software and hardware that replaces visual credential inspection and paper sign-in logs with real-time presence data and digital audit trails. We serve law enforcement, courts, schools, hospitals, arenas, and other credentialed-access environments where verifying who someone is — and what they are authorized to do — must happen in seconds, not minutes.
THE ROLE
We are looking for an experienced product designer to cover a parental leave and maintain design momentum across our mobile and web applications.
You'll be joining during an active build phase. Our lead designer will scaffold key upcoming features before their leave, and you'll take those foundations to completion — producing detailed, developer-ready designs while remaining a flexible, responsive partner to the engineering team as implementation realities emerge.
This is not a passive seat-keeping role. We need someone who is genuinely curious, proactive about identifying gaps, and comfortable operating with autonomy in a startup where priorities can shift week to week.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Core Design Execution
- Take scaffolded feature concepts and drive them to polished, developer-ready Figma designs
- Maintain design consistency across both the mobile app (iOS/Android) and web app
- Produce clean, well-annotated handoff files that give developers what they need without ambiguity
- Iterate quickly based on feedback from engineering, product, and leadership
- Support marketing design initiatives
Development Partnership
- Support developers during implementation — responding to design questions, clarifying intent, and making real-time adjustments as edge cases and technical constraints surface
- Participate in design reviews and dev syncs to keep work moving forward
- Flag and resolve design inconsistencies as they arise during the build process
Design Tools & Process
- Leverage AI tools (including Lovable, Claude and Strella) as part of the design workflow for rapid prototyping and concept validation as needed
- Work within and contribute to an existing component library and design system
- Document design decisions clearly so the lead designer can re-engage smoothly on return
WHAT YOU BRING
Required
- 3+ years of product design experience in a software environment (SaaS, mobile, or enterprise)
- Strong Figma proficiency — components, auto-layout, variants, prototyping, and developer handoff
- Experience designing for both mobile (iOS/Android) and web platforms
- A portfolio demonstrating end-to-end design work: from concept through developer-ready specs
- Strong collaborative skills and a highly flexible, adaptable mindset
- Comfort with ambiguity and shifting priorities in a small-team startup environment
- Ability to present to and communicate with stakeholders and clients with professionalism in formal business environments
Preferred
- Experience in security, law enforcement, government, or other data-sensitive enterprise products
- Familiarity with AI-assisted design tools and modern prototyping workflows
- Experience working from scaffolded designs rather than starting from scratch
- Prior contract or fractional design work — comfort with defined-duration engagements
- Experience conducting or participating in user research
- Delivering accessibility-compliant UX designs
Nice to Have
- Familiarity with Lovable or similar AI-assisted prototyping platforms
- Experience with design in regulated or compliance-sensitive environments
THE WORK ENVIRONMENT
We are a small, tight-knit team that values directness, curiosity, and initiative. You'll have meaningful ownership of your work, regular access to decision-makers, and a real opportunity to shape product direction — not just execute tickets.
Our product touches sensitive security and law enforcement data, so discretion, professionalism, and an understanding of the stakes are important qualities in anyone who joins us.
This is a hybrid role. We expect the contractor to be in our Littleton, CO office 1–2 days per week. Remote flexibility exists for the remainder.
