About Happy Health

Happy Health is revolutionizing sleep medicine delivery through our comprehensive telehealth platform. We've eliminated the traditional barriers to sleep care – no more waiting months for appointments or spending uncomfortable nights in sleep labs. Our patients receive FDA-cleared home sleep testing via Happy Ring, connect with board-certified sleep specialists, and when required, begin evidence-based treatment within just 5 days. Ongoing physiological data monitoring with the Happy Ring enables real-time condition management, combination therapies, and drives measurable outcomes.

Happy Ring represents the future of sleep diagnostics: an FDA-cleared medical device integrating advanced biometric sensors with AI-powered analysis to deliver highly accurate diagnostics and longitudinal management at home. For sleep medicine physicians, this means you'll have access to high-quality diagnostic data that empowers you to make confident clinical decisions for your patients, and integrate multimodal treatments that focus on root-cause solutions.

About the Role

As our Product Designer, you will become the primary hands-on designer across our consumer and patient experiences, taking ownership of most day-to-day design execution.

You will design across websites, native applications, lifecycle communications, patient-facing reports, print materials, social content, and emerging product experiences. You will also own and evolve a scalable Figma design system that supports multiple Happy Health products, sub-brands, contributors, and engineering teams.

This is an end-to-end ownership role. You will work closely with product leadership and engineers from problem definition through implementation, QA, launch, and iteration. You will be accountable not only for the quality of your designs, but also for how well they are built and whether they deliver meaningful customer and business results.

Happy Health is a startup, not a large design organization. You will work independently within a small, nimble product and marketing team focused on growing the business and building products that affect patients’ daily lives. Experience working in an early-stage or scaling startup is strongly preferred.

What You’ll Own

  • Design intuitive, polished experiences across digital and physical touchpoints, ensuring they work together as one cohesive customer and care journey.

  • Translate complex customer, clinical, operational, and business requirements into clear, elegant, and actionable design solutions.

  • Partner with product leadership to identify the right problems, define desired outcomes, and establish success metrics before designing solutions.

  • Own the architecture, development, documentation, and ongoing maintenance of our shared Figma design system and component libraries.

  • Create scalable components, patterns, templates, tokens, and guidelines that support multiple products, sub-brands, platforms, and responsive experiences.

  • Structure the Figma library so multiple team members can confidently use and contribute to it while maintaining consistency and quality.

  • Partner with engineering to align design-system components with reusable production components, improving scalability, development velocity, and implementation fidelity.

  • Collaborate closely with engineers throughout development to ensure designs are feasible, scalable, and built to a high standard.

  • Stay involved through visual and experience QA, launch, and iteration.

  • Use customer feedback, behavioral data, experimentation, and business performance to evaluate and improve your work.

  • Support broader brand and creative needs across patient, marketing, and company touchpoints as needed.

Our Approach to AI in the Creative Process

We expect our team to use AI when it can meaningfully improve speed, exploration, or execution. We also believe it should never be the first or final stop in the creative process.

AI does not replace strategic thinking, customer understanding, design fundamentals, or visual craft. We are not looking for someone who prompts a tool and presents its output as finished work. Anyone producing creative work must independently define the problem, form a point of view, make thoughtful decisions, and take full ownership of the quality of the final output.

We value people who know both when AI can help and when the work requires deeper human judgment.

What We’re Looking For

  • 5+ years of professional product design experience, or equivalent experience demonstrated through an exceptional portfolio.

  • Outstanding visual and interaction design skills with exceptional attention to detail.

  • Experience designing complex, consumer-facing products and multi-surface customer journeys.

  • Strong systems thinking and experience building or meaningfully contributing to a shared Figma design system.

  • A portfolio that demonstrates component-level scalability, not just polished individual screens.

  • Evidence that your work has delivered measurable customer or business impact.

  • Experience working directly with product leaders and engineers from problem definition through implementation and launch.

  • A willingness to remain actively involved during development and take accountability for the quality of the final experience.

  • Proficiency in Figma, including components, variants, auto layout, variables, libraries, prototyping, and scalable file organization.

  • The ability to balance customer needs, business goals, technical constraints, operational realities, and speed to market.

  • Comfort working independently in a fast-moving startup where priorities evolve and briefs may not always be fully defined.

  • Strong communication skills, sound judgment, curiosity, and a collaborative, low-ego approach.

  • Bonus Experience

  • Early-stage or scaling startup experience.

  • Consumer health, healthcare, digital health, or other regulated products.

  • Wearable devices, biometric data, health insights, or data visualization.

  • Ecommerce, subscription products, acquisition funnels, or conversion optimization.

  • Writing clear, concise, and empathetic UX copy.

  • Building landing pages or emails in no-code, drag-and-drop, or AI-assisted tools.

  • Motion design, animation, video editing, or social media creative.

  • Designing patient-facing reports or presenting complex health information in understandable and actionable ways.

  • Extending a parent brand across multiple products or sub-brands.

  • Portfolio and Interview Expectations

A portfolio is required. We will be looking for exceptional design craft, attention to detail, systems thinking, complex journey design, and evidence of close collaboration with product and engineering teams.During the later stages of the interview process, candidates will be asked to present a case study showing how something they designed moved the needle for the business. Be prepared to explain:

  • The customer and business problem.

  • Your specific role and level of ownership.

  • The constraints and tradeoffs you navigated.

  • How you collaborated with product and engineering.

  • How you remained involved through implementation.

  • The measurable results of the work.

  • We care as much about how you think, collaborate, and respond to real-world constraints as we do about the final screens.

Why This Role Matters

Happy Sleep’s brand and product experience were built from zero to one by a designer who has since moved into broader product and marketing leadership. We now need someone who can take the reins of hands-on design ownership, evolve what has already been built, and create scalable systems for what comes next.

You will inherit a meaningful foundation while having the opportunity to shape how the Happy Health patient experience evolves.
