Onebrief is collaboration and AI-powered workflow software designed specifically for military staffs. By transforming this work, Onebrief makes the staff as a whole superhuman - meaning faster, smarter, and more efficient.
We take ownership, seek excellence, and play to win with the seriousness and camaraderie of an Olympic team. Onebrief operates as an all-remote company, though many of our employees work alongside our customers at military commands around the world.
Founded in 2019 by a group of experienced planners, today, Onebrief’s team spans veterans from all forces and global organizations, and technologists from leading-edge software companies. We’ve raised $123m+ from top-tier investors, including Battery Ventures, General Catalyst, Insight Partners, and Human Capital, and today, Onebrief is valued at $1.1B. With this continued growth, Onebrief is able to make an impact where it matters most.
About the RoleWe are seeking a Design Systems Specialist to own, evolve, and champion the Onebrief Design System (ODS). This pivotal role will ensure the ODS becomes a robust, scalable, and accessible foundation for all user interfaces across the Onebrief platform. You will be the primary design owner embedded with the Frontend Platform team, working closely with engineers, designers, and product managers to deliver a unified, production-grade user experience. You will take full ownership of the ODS, leading its evolution from a source of technical debt to a modern, integrated system that bridges design and engineering.
About You
You have deep experience designing and scaling design systems in fast-paced, cross-functional environments. You’re fluent in Figma (including tokens, libraries, and advanced workflows), Storybook, and modern frontend frameworks. You thrive in ambiguous environments, proactively drive clarity and adoption, and are passionate about accessibility and inclusive design. Experience with military, government, or highly regulated domains is a plus but not required.
What You'll DoOwn a scalable component library and design token framework, keeping Figma and code in sync and driving adoption across product teams.
Reduce design-engineering drift by auditing and refactoring the current system, setting UI standards with eng and design leads, and enabling teams to ship consistently.
Improve readability and accessibility on constrained hardware by optimizing type, density, focus states, targets, and contrast; define a field‑representative viewport and device matrix with acceptance criteria.
Evolve ODS for windowless, low‑luminance environments by proposing a contrast‑safe theme and a semantic token architecture that supports light and low‑luminance/dark modes.
Partner with the design org: maintain visibility into in‑flight work, answer ODS questions, and proactively turn emerging patterns into documented components and tokens; run lightweight intake, office hours, and a transparent backlog.
Document and educate: keep usage guidelines current, host workshops, and communicate changes and deprecations clearly.
Strengthen quality: expand Storybook coverage, add visual regression across themes and constrained viewports, and bake contrast/readability checks into CI.
Lead the modernization roadmap, evaluating tools and workflows that advance Onebrief's product vision.
Demonstrated experience shipping themeable, token‑driven UI systems across light and dark or low‑luminance themes, including semantic token design and migration strategies.
Expertise in accessibility for low‑vision users on small and legacy screens: contrast, legibility, type scale, spacing, focus and hover states, and input target sizing per WCAG 2.2.
Practical experience profiling real‑world hardware constraints and calibrating designs for dim, windowless environments; ability to translate findings into tokens, component specs, and guidelines.
Hands‑on with Figma Tokens or equivalent, CSS variables, Style Dictionary or similar pipelines, and Storybook visual regression across themes and breakpoints.
Strong collaboration with engineering to implement theme switching and runtime theming, including prefers‑color‑scheme and environment‑specific presets.
Proven ability to partner with product and design peers, anticipate pattern needs from in‑flight work, and translate them into reusable, well‑documented ODS components and tokens.
Clear, empathetic communication and "community management" of the system: office hours, async support, change logs, and deprecation guidance.
Why Join Onebrief

You’ll shape the future of design at a rapidly growing, well-funded company, alongside a team of top-tier engineers and designers who value autonomy, candor, and real-world impact.
