Position Description:

FlexGen is seeking an experienced Product Counsel to join our growing legal group. The role, which reports to the Executive Vice President, General Counsel & Corporate Secretary, includes responsibilities with respect to a wide range of commercial contracts related to the development of energy storage projects and sale of related services, as well as compliance, governance, and other corporate matters. The Product Counsel will work closely with the Technology team and collaborate with the business development and other teams with respect to product development, contract preparation, and deal execution during a time of the company’s rapid growth. This position may be hybrid based in Durham, NC or our offices in Delray Beach, FL, or remote.


Major Job Responsibilities:

  • Draft, negotiate, and analyze broad range of complex technology services contracts
  • Provide technology, business development, and other teams with timely and quality legal advice and support
  • Support and manage intellectual property portfolio
  • Monitor and support ongoing compliance activities
  • Minimize the need for outside counsel
  • Other duties as assigned

Position Requirements:

  • Minimum of five years of experience practicing law in the technology space
  • Substantial experience representing developers with respect to SaaS and other technology services, product development, intellectual property prosecution and management, data privacy and security, regulatory compliance, etc.
  • Experience with battery storage projects preferred
  • At least three years of sophisticated technology transaction and/or intellectual property prosecution experience in a major law firm preferred
  • Excellent writing skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively in formal and informal settings with internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to communicate complex technical information effectively in business and legal contexts
  • Deep intellectual curiosity
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative, cross-functional environment with limited supervision
  • Membership in good standing in at least one state bar
  • Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school
  • Bachelors degree or comparable background in engineering, computer science, data science, applied mathematics, or similar field strongly preferred
  • Ability to work effectively in a hybrid or remote work environment
  • Fluent in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
