Position Summary
We are seeking a skilled and experienced attorney to join our team as a Product Counsel. In this pivotal role, you will collaborate closely with underwriting, actuarial, claims, and regulatory teams to draft, review, and enhance insurance policies, endorsements, and related forms. Your expertise will ensure that our product offerings are legally sound, compliant with applicable regulations, and aligned with market trends.
Key Responsibilities
- Policy Drafting & Review: Draft, review, and amend insurance policies, endorsements, and related documents to ensure clarity, compliance, and alignment with underwriting intent.
- Product Development Collaboration: Work closely with underwriting and product development teams to create and refine insurance products, ensuring they meet market needs and regulatory standards.
- Competitive Analysis: Analyze competitor insurance policies to provide insights and recommendations for product enhancements and differentiation.
- Training & Guidance: Provide training and guidance to underwriting, claims, and other internal teams on policy language, coverage intent, and regulatory requirements.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain collaborative relationships with internal stakeholders, including underwriting, actuarial, claims, and regulatory teams, to support product development initiatives.
- Continuous Improvement: Contribute to continuous improvement strategies to position the company as a technical leader in the underwriting domain.
Qualifications
- Education: Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
- Experience: 8–10 years of experience in insurance law, with a focus on product development, underwriting, or claims.
- Skills:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
- Licensing: Active membership in a state bar association.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with P&C and Specialty products.
- Familiarity with form/rate filing processes and regulatory requirements.
- Proficiency in enhancing existing processes and feedback loops.
