Communities everywhere share the need for clean water. As utilities evolve toward energy-efficient and resilient treatment, the role of advanced process modeling and data-driven decision-making has never been more critical. Stantec’s North America Water business is looking to strengthen our modeling and process intensification capabilities across regions.
Join our team to deliver transformational projects that will benefit future generations. Grow with us, H2O+U.
Your Opportunity
Stantec is seeking an EIT to join our highly successful water practice. This role will focus on model-based design excellence, conceptual process evaluation, and technical mentoring within our growing wastewater practice. The position can be based in Denver, CO or another Stantec office, with flexibility for hybrid work and travel to project sites.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Support process design and optimization for wastewater and resource recovery facilities spanning biological nutrient removal, energy efficiency, and emerging process intensification technologies
- Translate research into design practice by applying insights from pilot studies, WRF projects, and utility partnerships to develop practical, scalable design approaches.
- Guide technology evaluation and selection for full-scale implementation, including kinetic/stoichiometric analyses, process configuration, and system integration.
- Collaborate with modeling teams to interpret output and integrate data-driven insights into design decisions and linking plant-scale data to performance improvement.
- Lead or contribute to applied R&D and innovation projects, including grant-supported initiatives (e.g., WRF, DOE, EPA) and emerging carbon/energy optimization studies.
- Engage with clients and the industry, including presenting at WEF, IWA, and other professional forums to share lessons learned and elevate Stantec’s visibility in the innovation space.
- Coordinate across multidisciplinary teams (civil, mechanical, electrical, and digital) to translate conceptual process improvements into integrated facility designs.
- Support proposal development for advanced treatment, energy/carbon efficiency, and innovation-related pursuits.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
Familiar with the fundamentals of biological nutrient removal and process intensification and process kinetics, with demonstrated ability to apply theory to full-scale design.
Working knowledge of process modeling platforms (BioWin, SUMO, GPS-X) sufficient to support projects
Excellent written and verbal communication; proven ability to synthesize complex data into client-facing recommendations.
Strong collaboration skills and a passion for mentoring and innovation within multidisciplinary teams.
EIT registration (or ability to obtain within 6 months).
5+ years of relevant experience in wastewater process design/ research translation, and/or process innovation.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Environmental, Civil, Chemical, or related engineering discipline.
Master’s or Ph.D. preferred, particularly with a focus on wastewater process development, modeling, or bio-process intensification.
