Lightspark is seeking a Privacy and Contracts Counsel to join our innovative team with potential for growth in our rapidly expanding team. As a key member of our legal department, you will play a critical role in advising the company on a variety of matters, including building out the company’s privacy and third-party risk management programs and policies, commercial negotiations with vendors and other commercial agreements.  The ideal candidate will have significant experience with data privacy, including CCPA and GDPR, and be able to drive and manage cross-functional projects.  You will report to our Deputy General Counsel.  If you are ready to drive innovation and contribute to the success of a high-growth startup, we invite you to join us at Lightspark.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Data Privacy: Advising the company on data privacy matters and building out and managing the company’s data privacy compliance program, in coordination with compliance and security teams.   Collaborating with product and engineering teams to promote privacy by design and implement data protection best practices.  Negotiating privacy provisions of the Company’s customer agreements. 

  • Third-Party Risk Management: Building out and managing legal components of the Company’s third-party risk management program (working closely with compliance and finance/risk teams).

  • Drafting and Reviewing Contracts: Negotiating and drafting contracts with Lightspark vendors and drafting and reviewing nondisclosure agreements and other commercial agreements 

  • Corporate Policies and Procedures: Developing, implementing, and maintaining corporate governance policies, procedures, and best practices in alignment with applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards.

What we are looking for:

  • JD from an top-tier accredited law school

  • Admission to practice law in the US jurisdiction in which you reside 

  • 3+ years of experience handling a broad range of commercial transactions and data privacy compliance 

  • In-depth experience with drafting and negotiating contracts 

  • Expertise in data privacy regulations and cybersecurity laws (GDPR, CCPA)

  • Privacy by design experience, CIPP certified information privacy professional a plus

  • In-house experience at a technology company and/or experience with financial services a plus 

  • Excellent written and verbal skills

  • A willingness to “roll up your sleeves” take ownership of matters, and to work effectively in a cross-functional and fast-paced environment with smart and creative people to build trusting relationships 

  • Ability to take a pragmatic business-oriented approach to problem solving in order to achieve business goals and objectives

  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, ability to manage multiple projects at once, follow through and meet deadlines
