Scopely is looking for a Principal Tools Engineer to join our unannounced project working with a remote team spread across the Americas.

We are in the early stages of development on an ambitious, unannounced, cross-platform action-adventure title, creating a team of talented and passionate game makers to join us on this exciting journey!

What You Will Do

As a Principal Tools Engineer, you will architect the tools that will enable us to achieve our ambitious goals of building game content at both a huge scale and with a handcrafted feel. As the world is changing we want to be at the forefront of that change, so this role will be at the center of leveraging AI to make our tools more powerful for our creators.   

This is a critical role requiring strong technical expertise, excellent communication, and a passion for empowering creators.

  • Own the architecture for our game tools that will enable us to deliver content for many years
  • Collaborate closely with all disciplines to to deeply understand their creative needs and deliver tools that empower them
  • Lead by example and be a mentor to other engineers
  • Design and implement tools either within the Unity Engine, in DCCs, or as standalone applications as is most appropriate to the needs of the project 
  • Proactively identify workflow bottlenecks and propose tool improvements to enhance productivity
  • Ensure quality and scalability, performing code reviews and technical design reviews
  • Champion a strong user experience philosophy for the internal tools to build
  • Stay ahead of emerging technologies and methods that can shape the future of game development tools

What We're Looking For

  • Extensive professional experience in tools development or similar roles in the game industry or software development
  • Expertise with modern 3D game engines, especially Unity 
  • Familiarity with modern AI agents and a desire to grow in this area
  • Experience working closely with non-technical stakeholders (product teams, designers, artists)
  • Deep understanding of content pipelines and asset workflows
  • Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills
  • Comfortable discussing complex technical concepts with non-technical team members and collaborating with diverse teams
  • Strong sense of ownership and responsibility
  • Ability to work across multiple codebases and platforms
  • Passion for building intuitive, empowering tools that elevate creative teams

For candidates in CA, CO, NJ, NY, and WA, the annual salary range is provided below. In addition to base pay, employees may be eligible for equity, bonuses, and a comprehensive benefits package, including healthcare benefits, retirement benefits, pet insurance, paid holidays, paid Scopely free days, and unlimited paid time off. Base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
