What do we need
We are seeking a Principal Solutions Architect to be a senior technical authority within Dotmatics Professional Services, responsible for defining and governing end-to-end solution architectures for customer implementations of the Dotmatics Luma platform.
The role combines deep technical architecture expertise with an appreciation of scientific R&D workflows. The Principal Solution Architect ensures that solutions are not only functionally correct, but also meet rigorous non-functional requirements around performance, scalability, security, reliability, observability, maintainability and long-term operability.
This trusted technical advisor role is highly customer-facing and works closely with Sales, PreSales, Product, Engineering, Cloud Operations and Siemens Digital Industries Software (DISW) architecture teams. It plays a key role in joint Siemens engagements, positioning Luma alongside technologies such as Teamcenter, Mendix, and other DISW portfolio software solutions.
In this role you will get to:
- Architecture & Design Authority
- Act as the design authority for Luma-based customer solutions
- Define logical and physical architectures covering applications, data, integrations, identity, environments and operations
- Ensure architectural consistency across multiple customer engagements
- Make and document architectural trade-offs considering cost, complexity, scalability, risk, and long-term sustainability
- Functional & Non-Functional Requirements
- Shape functional requirements in collaboration with Scientific Architect and Application Scientists
- Own non-functional requirements including performance, scalability, security, resilience, observability, accessibility, internationalisation, and maintainability
- Translate business and scientific needs into robust technical architectures
- Integration and Data Architecture
- Design integration approaches using technologies such as Apache NiFi, APIs, batch pipelines, and event-driven patterns
- Define data ingestion, transformation, and migration strategies
- Architect solutions leveraging Databricks, including configuration via Databricks SQL
- Ensure data lineage, auditability, and regulatory compliance
- Support visualisation and analytics patterns using tools such as Sigma for Databricks
- Platform and Enterprise Integration
- Architect Luma solutions that integrate with customer enterprise systems including: ELNs (Dotmatics & Third-Party), LIMS, SDMS, PLM, ERP, Instrument data systems
- Define how Dotmatics fits within broader Siemens landscapes, including Teamcenter, Mendix and other DISW software solutions
- Security, Reliability, and Operations
- Apply security best practices covering IAM, data protection, tenancy, and compliance
- Design for high availability, resilience, and disaster recovery
- Define observability strategies including logging, monitoring, and alerting
- Ensure architectures are operable by support and cloud teams post go-live
- Stakeholder Engagement
- Act as senior technical advisor to customers, including IT leadership and enterprise architects
- Partner with Sales and PreSales (solution shaping, scoping and risk assessment), Product Management and Engineering (influence roadmap decisions)
- Represent Dotmatics architecture in joint Siemens engagements and architecture forums
- Work with Siemens and non-Siemens partners as a peer architect ensuring architectural alignment across joint delivery model
- Technical Leadership & Enablement
- Provide architectural guidance to other Solution Architects, Technical Leads, Application Scientists, and Delivery Partners
- Review designs and implementations for architectural compliance
- Raise the overall architectural maturity of the Dotmatics Professional Services organisation and partner ecosystems
- Create reusable architectural artefacts including reference architectures, integration templates, and design decision frameworks
- Partner Enablement
- Act as the architectural authority for partner-led implementations of the Dotmatics Luma platform
- Enable system integrators, Siemens partners and regional delivery partners through architectural guidance, design reviews and technical enablement sessions
- Define reference architectures, integration patterns, and implementation guardrails for partners
- Support partner onboarding by defining “how Luma should be implemented” from an architectural and non-functional perspective
- Ensure partner-delivered solutions meet Dotmatics and Siemens standards for scalability, security, operability and maintainability
- Collaborate with Partner, Sales, and Services leadership to define where Dotmatics retains architectural ownership
- Act as an escalation point for complex architectural issues arising in partner-led engagements
We are looking for people who have 10+ years experience designing enterprise-grade SaaS or hybrid architectures. You'll have a degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related technical or scientific field. You'll have a strong understanding of integration patterns, APIs, data pipelines, and distributed systems.
The key skills we are looking for
- Technical Architecture: Experience with data platforms (Databricks) and integration tools (Apache NiFi).
- Ability to reason about performance, scalability, and failure modeS
- Enterprise Systems Exposure: Experience integrating complex application landscapes (ELN, LIMS, SDMS, PLM, ERP, MES, etc) and comfortable working with heterogeneous customer IT landscapes
- Scientific Domain Appreciation: Scientific R&D workflows and data, particularly in life sciences or regulated environments
- Leadership & Communication: Comfortable acting as the most senior technical voice in the room
- Able to explain complex architectural decisions to technical and non-technical audiences
- Experience working in customer-facing consulting or professional services roles
- Partner and Ecosystem Experience: Experience working with system integrators or technology partners in enterprise delivery models
- Comfortable defining guardrails rather than prescribing every implementation detail
- Able to balance enablement with governance in partner-led engagements
You may also have:
- Architecture certifications (TOGAF, cloud architecture)
- Experience in regulated environments (GxP, FDA, ISO, SOC 2, GDPR)
