As part of our strategic growth and commitment to enhancing our operational flexibility, we are excited to announce our transition to a hybrid working model. We will be establishing offices in Austin, Boston, Chicago, Denver, New York City, Philadelphia, New Jersey, Raleigh and Toronto. These cities will serve as key hubs for our operations. We are actively seeking talented individuals to join our team and support this dynamic shift. Candidates interested in these opportunities should reside within a reasonable commuting distance from one of these future office locations, as employees will be expected to work from the office at least three days a week. This approach will enable us to cultivate a collaborative and innovative environment while providing the flexibility that modern work demands. This position will be based out of Denver office.
The Opportunity: Part of a flagship Litera product, this role is expected to work across teams and projects as needed. Extensive knowledge of software eco-systems supporting the products we distribute across our customer base. Responsible for delivering innovative software solutions that transform the legal industry, the Principal Software Engineer will actively contribute to the development of a software application suite and help the teams define and improve their technical solutions, ensuring that they are both maintainable and extensible. They work with the management team to execute strategic goals for the department.
Responsibilities:
- Active contributor to the codebase
- Lead in designing, coding, testing, configuring, documenting, and debugging software, utilizing technologies, development tools and languages as required for the project assigned
- Collaborate with Product Management, Software Quality Engineering, DevOps, Architecture, and other functional teams (e.g. Customer experience, Sales, Marketing), to ensure that solutions are efficient, consistent and fulfill business needs
- Work in an Agile software development environment (e.g. Scrum, Kanban), participating in commitment, retrospective and planning meetings
- Attendance during regular work hours and overtime as required
- Participate in requirements reviews
- Refactor existing software
- Apply generally accepted development and quality assurance standards and techniques to assure efficient program logic and data manipulation
- Lead design and design reviews
- Able to independently architect and lead implementation of new software solutions from scratch. Including activities such as: Develops project plans, coordinates projects, manages project team activities, communicates changes and progress, completes projects on time and budget
- Move easily to any Litera software team and make an immediate contribution
- Provide technical guidance and supervision to other team members, including the discovery of alternative system and software designs
- Work closely with the Director and Product Teams to ensure adherence to, and continued development of, architecture best practices
- Possesses advanced functional or technical knowledge to complex problem solving and process innovation
- Work with our customers to help solve their software design and operation issues
- Act as liaison with manufacturers and vendors of software and application products, especially with regard to problem diagnosis and resolution
- Able to contribute to design and decision making in all areas
- Software Language Agnostic. Should be able to pick up a new programming language in a week and apply it with high Confidence.
- Develop rapid POCs to validate that an outcome can be achieved in certain technologies
- Scaffold applications to ensure scalability and re-usability
- Proactive in researching and recommending new technologies
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or similar discipline
- 12+ years of experience using a modern object-oriented language (example: C#, C++, or Java)
- 6+ years experience with SQL, EF, LINQ
- Some experience with Lucene, OpenSearch, Elasticsearch, or similar search services
- At least basic knowledge of generative AI technologies
- Stays current on new frameworks and technologies for desktop, mobile and cloud
- 6+ years of delivering scalable solutions
- 6+ years of leading multiple projects successfully through their entire life cycle
- Communication and presentation skills
- 6+ years of experience with performance tuning and scaling for large workloads
- Proven ability to mentor and lead others

California, Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, Maryland, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Rhode Island, or Washington Residents Only: The salary range for California, Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, Maryland, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Rhode Island, or Washington residents is $125,000 to $148,500. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, Litera offers benefits such as a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
