Job Family Definition:

Designs, develops, troubleshoots and debugs the Kubernetes-based control plane software for HPE Alletra Storage MP X10000, an enterprise storage product. Develops Go microservices, Kubernetes controllers and host networking daemons that provide highly available client networking, manage data-center network infrastructure, and distribute and upgrade software across the cluster. Works across Linux networking, Kubernetes and network hardware.

Leads or participates in cross-functional initiatives and contributes to mentorship and knowledge sharing across the organization.


Responsibilities:

 Designs, develops and owns Go microservices and Kubernetes controllers/operators for cluster networking, network infrastructure management, and software distribution.

 Develops host-level Linux networking software that configures interfaces, addressing and routing to give clients highly available access over IPv4 and IPv6.

 Automates the configuration and lifecycle management of data-center network switches, including safe, recoverable firmware upgrades.

 Develops and maintains services that package, store and distribute software and container images for cluster installs and upgrades.

 Designs distributed, highly available services that remain correct through node failures, restarts and partial upgrades.

 Reviews and evaluates designs and code for correctness, failure handling and testability; provides tangible feedback to improve product quality and reduce the risk of failure.

 Develops automated unit, integration and system tests, including fault-injection testing.

 Troubleshoots customer escalations and field issues across Kubernetes, Linux networking and network infrastructure, and turns the findings into lasting product fixes.

 Collaborates with cross-functional storage, platform and cloud teams on designs that span multiple components.

 Provides guidance and mentoring to junior team members to set an example of software design and development excellence.


Education and Experience Required:

 Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent.

 Typically 10+ years experience developing production software, including significant experience with distributed or infrastructure systems.


Knowledge and Skills:

 Strong professional experience developing in Go (Golang), including concurrency and testable design.

 Hands-on experience developing on Kubernetes, such as building controllers/operators and custom resources.

 Solid knowledge of Linux IP networking (TCP/IP, routing, VLANs, IPv6) and hands-on network troubleshooting.

 Experience with software packaging, distribution and upgrades, such as container images, registries and rolling updates.

 Experience designing distributed, highly available systems that tolerate partial failures.

 Proficiency in Python for test automation, tooling, and system setup scripts.

 Experience with RPC frameworks (e.g., gRPC), secure communications (TLS), and Linux system services.

 Excellent analytical, debugging and problem solving skills.

 Excellent written and verbal communication skills.


Preferred Qualifications:

 Experience automating data-center network switches through APIs or network automation tools.

 Experience orchestrating firmware or OS upgrades for network devices or appliances.

 Experience delivering software to on-premises or air-gapped environments.

 Knowledge of Kubernetes networking internals (e.g., CNI).

 Background in enterprise storage, appliances or high-performance networking.

 Experience with observability (Prometheus metrics, structured logging) and supporting production systems in the field.
