Pay Range

$136,900.00-$188,200.00 Annual

This is the base salary pay range that an applicant can expect to make upon hire.   Pay within this range will vary based upon relevant experience, skills, and education among other factors. In addition, this position is eligible for an incentive bonus. 

The Principal Project Manager is accountable for the management of JM's largest and most complex projects and is an expert in companywide applied areas. Responsible to plan, prioritize, and manage multiple projects, and prioritize tasks and assign team members to ensure that resources are used effectively, and all project goals are met. Cooperates and communicates actively with the project stakeholders such as plant managers and business leaders to ensure alignment in all stages of the project. The typical project budget is $40M to $150M.

Responsible for equipment and work specifications; develops schedules, budgets and forecasts; validates the selection of materials equipment, project resources, and contractors, and ensures all aspects of the design are reviewed technically and commercially for scope, safety, quality, and functionality. Identifies and promotes use of best practices and implements programs for continuous improvement in the Capital Project Process. (CPP)

Leads cross-functional project teams that typically consists of plant personnel, discipline engineers, procurement and external engineering contractors. Reports to the project steering team which reviews options and provides support and guidance at the various phases of the project.

Objectives:

  • Execute investment projects with a budget of $40M to $150M with high complexity according the CPP process and requirements described below:
  • Develop, guide, review, and present project feasibility studies and business cases that accurately identify project benefits, risks, and returns project assignments concurrently and driving projects to completion. Guide less experienced engineers on processes
  • Estimate costs of the project, define resources and time required to complete. Drives the iteration of options to identify in the end the most optimal technical solution to meet the cost/performance improvements defined in the business case. Ensures that Lessons Learned are considered in design considerations
  • Evaluates vendors in close cooperation with procurement, engineering and EHS to check cost and performance, and decides according to the project RACI on the sourcing plan
  • Provide project management and oversight for all aspects and phases for multiple project assignments concurrently and drives projects to completion
  • Ensure the review of Mechanical and/or Electrical Controls detail engineering for all project aspects
  • Ensure compliance to technical specifications and contracts for equipment and services for all aspects of projects
  • Coordinate, review, provide oversight and manage external engineering resources and consultants as needed
  • Manage/develop bid request documentation, supplier lists, bid evaluations, and make recommendations for purchasing
  • Validate the design of safe processes and specification of safe equipment, ensures that ergonomics are considered in all areas of design, and that potential safety and health hazards are identified and eliminated during project execution
  • Design and specify environmentally compliant equipment and processes, ensure that all permit requirements are considered and addressed in the design, and that potential environmental issues are identified and addressed during project execution
  • Prepare, review, deliver, and implement necessary training plan to maintenance and operations hourly workforce regarding the project
  • Ensure that all safety policies and procedures are followed, driving a zero-incident project environment
  • Work with Engineering Leaders and Procurement to identify and evaluate potential engineering firms and contractors
  • Leads and guarantees effective and clear communication to project stakeholders and team members, customers and partners regarding project status, risk management, change requests and possible impacts, to drive proper decision making and project/business expectations
  • Prepare, organize, document, and archive project documentation
  • Work with Engineering Leaders and project engineers to drive consistency in the identification and use of best practices regarding project engineering and management, and to continuously improve on all aspects of the commercial components of the process
  • Apply lean manufacturing concepts to all aspects of design and project execution
  • Drives a continuous lesson learned logbook through the project and drives the analysis after finishing the project. Communication of the results in the engineering team to support the continuous improvement.
  • Works proactively with process engineers, production, and maintenance departments to solve process and equipment issues, and to identify improvement opportunities based on joint performance reviews with coworkers.
  • Provide engineering input for improved automation and product packaging opportunities
  • Follows the trends in technology and equipment design by visiting tradeshows / exhibitions and key vendors.
  • Coach and mentor project staff and assigned operations team, and assist them to solve problems and meet company, division and departmental objectives.
  • Provide indirect leadership and coaching to less experienced project engineers

What You Bring to the Team:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering with a minimum of 10 years engineering experience in industrial or manufacturing industry
  • Project Manager Professional (PMP) certification (Desired)
  • Strong project management skills managing projects up to $40M or above
  • Experience managing refractory furnace reconstruction projects, within the glass, cement, or steel sectors (Desired)
  • Proponent/SME for CPP and project management processes and improvements therein
  • Excellent leadership skills and proficient at building and motivating high performance teams to deliver exceptional services and solutions
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated high level of drive and initiative to complete assigned tasks and investigate and seek out improvement opportunities
  • Experience managing contractors and sub-contractors, including bid process
  • Experience preparing cost estimates, schedules and project deliverables
  • Solid knowledge of contract design and legal requirements
  • Proficient in project scheduling software (MS Project, Primavera) (Solid)
  • Exposure to SAP systems and Power BI reporting, a plus
  • Heavy travel required (30%-60%)
  • Work environment is typical of a manufacturing facility: May be exposed to environmental conditions of cold, heat, high noise levels, moving mechanical parts, heights, dust/mist/gas/fumes, extensive walking or climbing, etc.
  • May be required to lift, carry, push or pull up to and including 25 pounds
