Our team is passionate about challenging the status quo of the credit industry by providing people accessible tools to take control of their credit. Executing on our mission requires deep collaboration across our teams to ensure our products reach the people who can benefit from them the most, particularly the 100 million+ Americans who have no or low credit.
We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees. To that end, we seek to recruit, develop and retain the most talented people from a diverse candidate pool.
Who You Are:
You are a product leader who moves fluidly between strategy and execution. You dive deep into the product, protect the team’s focus, and build a clear vision that aligns with customer needs and business goals. You don’t just ship features, you craft intentional iterations, observe outcomes, and scale what works. You're known for making smart trade-offs, advocating for the customer, and driving momentum across complex, cross-functional initiatives.
You possess strong technical fluency, enabling you to collaborate effectively with engineering on how the product is built (not just what it does) ensuring long-term scalability. You're equally comfortable inspiring a team to do their best work and making hard decisions when trade-offs are necessary.
About the Role:
As Principal Product Manager, you’ll lead strategic initiatives within our Borrow & Spend line, improving core experiences, shaping new offerings, and stewarding a product vision rooted in customer success. You’ll operate across a broad surface area, from early-stage concepts to iterative launches, with a focus on delivering high-impact results and durable infrastructure.
You’ll work closely with stakeholders across engineering, compliance, risk, analytics, operations, design, and marketing to ensure alignment and execution excellence.
What You Will Do:
- Define and evolve the product strategy for the Borrow & Spend portfolio, with a focus on sustainable credit building and customer empowerment.
- Lead product discovery, iteration planning, and launches — balancing incremental experiments with big bets.
- Champion a customer-first mindset through qualitative and quantitative insights, a/b testing, and usability validation.
- Act as a thought partner to engineering — shaping how features are architected to support long-term platform goals.
- Manage multiple concurrent initiatives across different stages, from scoping to execution to rollout.
- Inspire teams to stay focused, make tough trade-offs, and ship high-quality work at pace.
- Communicate product strategy, vision, and outcomes to executives and stakeholders with clarity and influence.
- Maintain deep subject matter expertise in our card products, compliance requirements, and market positioning.
- Maintain an awareness of major industry trends, competitive feature landscape and developing appropriate prioritization
What You Bring:
- 7–10+ years of product management experience, with recent leadership in complex or regulated product domains.
- Experience owning a product end-to-end, from vision and roadmap to launch and iteration.
- A track record of influencing across disciplines and levels, with clear and persuasive communication.
- Strong analytical skills and fluency with both data (SQL a plus) and qualitative research methods.
- Technical fluency — you understand how systems fit together and speak the language of engineers.
- Experience in credit, lending, or financial infrastructure is strongly preferred.
- A deep sense of ownership and commitment to Self’s mission of building economic inclusion.
