The Role
As a Principal Product Manager for the Yahoo News App, you will help shape and deliver the product vision for a trusted, personalized, and engaging mobile news experience, evolving Yahoo News from a traditional aggregator into a dynamic product where trusted voices, contributors, and user interests drive relevance and retention.
This role requires strong product instincts, sound judgment, and a deep understanding of how people consume information on mobile. You will lead high-impact, pillar-level initiatives, helping teams find signals in complex data and turning it into a clear product direction.
This role offers significant autonomy. You will influence investment decisions, surface opportunities across content, personalization, and emerging identity-driven experiences, and define the roadmap for how users experience video, audio, text, and emerging formats. You will also strengthen product practices across the team through structured thinking and mentorship.
What You’ll Do
Shape product strategy for features that improve engagement, trust, and long-term user value.
Turn complex signals, data, and feedback into clear product opportunities, leveraging AI-driven tools to synthesize large datasets and user research at scale.
Lead ideation and prioritization of content discovery experiences, identifying how AI/ML-powered experiences can improve relevance while incorporating signals from user interests and follows without compromising editorial integrity.
Refine onboarding, navigation, and notification experiences to drive growth and retention, including establishing stronger user identity and preference signals.
Identify and implement AI-assisted efficiencies in the product discovery process, replacing manual synthesis with automated workflows to move the team faster.
Raise the quality of specs, design reviews, and product decisions through thoughtful feedback and structured thinking.
Advance a culture of fast learning through research, testing, and iteration.
Help teams balance speed and quality and make clear tradeoffs in pursuit of meaningful outcomes.
Provide mentorship and guidance to PMs and cross-functional partners, elevating decision-making across the team.
Influence roadmap planning and investment decisions at the pillar level, ensuring visibility with senior leadership.
What You Bring
Deep experience building and shipping high-scale mobile apps in Android and iOS.
7+ years of product management experience building consumer-facing products, with a focus on content discovery, engagement, and user relationship systems.
Proven ability to create clarity from complex information and turn it into strong product direction.
Proven track record of taking products and features from 0 to 1, moving from ambiguous problem spaces to shipped experiences with measurable user impact.
A proactive approach to leveraging modern tools (e.g., Gemini, Claude, or internal AI platforms) to accelerate the creation of specs, research summaries, and strategy docs.
Demonstrated strength in setting priorities and driving outcomes with speed, conviction, and structure.
Deep instincts in understanding user needs and turning them into simple, effective experiences.
Fluency in data analysis, experimentation, and user research.
Experience guiding large cross-functional teams (Engineering, Design, Editorial, Data).
Experience in content or media ecosystems where trust, quality, and relevance are paramount.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in news, media, streaming, or content-heavy products.
Familiarity with video, audio, and interactive storytelling formats.
Interest in the application of AI/ML for content discovery, summarization, and user personalization.
Ability to create order and forward progress in complex, high-ambiguity product spaces.
Experience operating in fast-moving consumer product organizations that ship continuously.
A track record of using AI productivity tools to increase personal and team velocity.

The compensation for this position ranges from $136,125.00 - $283,750.00/yr and will vary depending on factors such as your location, skills and experience.The compensation package may also include incentive compensation opportunities in the form of discretionary annual bonus or commissions.
