The Impact of a Principal Product Manager, Cloud Platform at Coupa:
We are seeking a visionary and deeply technical Principal Product Manager to define and drive the future of Coupa's entire cloud platform and developer experience. This is a senior leadership role where you will be responsible for the multi-year strategy that ensures our platform is massively scalable, highly reliable, secure by design, and cost-effective.
You will tackle our most complex technical and business challenges, leading without authority and serving as a key strategic partner to VPs of Engineering, Architecture, and Security. Your work will directly impact the productivity of hundreds of engineers and the performance of a platform that serves the world's largest enterprises. This role requires a leader who can operate at both 30,000 feet—crafting long-term vision—and 3 feet—diving deep into technical details with our top engineers.
What You'll Do:
- Define and Lead Strategy: Set the long-term vision and multi-year strategy for Coupa’s cloud platform, developer experience, and customer lifecycle management in a dynamic, evolving environment.
- Drive Thought Leadership & Executive Influence: Act as a strategic partner to SRE, DevOps, Security, and Engineering teams; influence high-level architecture and investment decisions; build strong business cases and present to executive leadership.
- Standardize Engineering Practices: Accelerate development through standardized platform capabilities like CI/CD, observability, container orchestration, and infrastructure automation.
- Measure What Matters: Develop innovative metrics beyond the standard, including SLOs/SLIs, to measure platform health, developer productivity, and tie them directly to business outcomes.
- Mentor and Develop Talent: Guide and grow product managers and technical leaders to enhance platform product management excellence across the organization.
- Champion the User & Vision: Gather customer feedback to inform strategy and roadmaps; evangelize the product vision and user value across all levels of the company.
What You Will Bring to Coupa:
- Extensive Product Leadership: 10+ years in product management with a strong focus on technical, platform, and infrastructure products in enterprise SaaS environments.
- Technical Depth & Cloud Expertise: Deep experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure), Kubernetes, Terraform, observability tools, and enterprise security/compliance (SOC 2, ISO 27001, FedRAMP).
- Strategic Influence & Communication: Proven ability to align cross-functional teams and senior leaders around complex technical and business decisions without formal authority.
- Vision to Execution: Skilled at translating ambiguous business problems into structured, phased, multi-year product roadmaps and strategies.
- User-Centered Approach: Experience mapping end-to-end user journeys, identifying pain points, and improving developer and user experience across personas.
- Strong Technical Foundation: Former Staff/Principal Engineer, SRE, or Architect with hands-on experience leading major architectural transformations (e.g., monolith to microservices, multi-cloud adoption); holds a Master’s in Computer Science or related field.
The estimated pay range for this role is $168,300 - $198,000
The starting salary for the successful candidate will be based on permissible, non-discriminatory factors such as skills, experience, and geographic location.
