About the Role
Recurly is looking for a Principal Product Manager to own our AI product strategy and execution. You'll be responsible for evolving Recurly into a value-added AI partner for subscription businesses - surfacing actionable insights, automating complex workflows, and making it dramatically easier for customers to grow and retain their subscriber bases. This is not a supporting role. You'll define and defend a bold AI vision, work across the full Recurly product surface, and drive outcomes that increase subscriber LTV and merchant efficiency at scale.
What You'll Be Doing
AI-Powered Merchant Intelligence
● Build predictive intelligence tools that surface churn risk scores, LTV forecasts, and upgrade propensity signals — and recommend (or autonomously execute) the best next action.
● Develop natural language interfaces that let merchant admins query their billing data, generate reports, and manage subscriber workflows without touching a dashboard.
● Own Recurly's generative AI layer: contextual in-app guidance, AI-drafted customer communications, auto-generated performance summaries, and smart recommendations baked into the product.
Agentic Workflows & MCP Expansion
● Expand Recurly's MCP (Model Context Protocol) server capabilities so AI agents across the ecosystem can take meaningful action inside Recurly — not just read data, but execute dunning strategies, trigger win-back campaigns, adjust subscriber plans, and more.
● Design agentic workflows that let merchant admins manage subscriber lifecycles through natural language — an AI agent that monitors churn signals, proposes retention offers, and executes them with minimal human intervention.
● Build agentic subscriber-facing experiences: AI-driven conversational flows that handle cancellation saves, pause requests, and plan changes inside merchant storefronts, turning churn moments into retention moments.
● Partner with data science to build ML models that improve billing recovery rates, predict payment failures before they happen, and personalize retention at scale.
Strategic Vision & Cross-Functional Execution
● Perform generative research on problem spaces to ideate and prioritize innovative, customer-centric solutions. Don't just take orders — bring the outside world in and challenge the status quo.
● Own and defend theme-based product visions aligned to Recurly's strategic objectives. Deliver outcomes, not just outputs.
● Be the subject matter expert in your area. Excite and motivate internal and external stakeholders with your vision.
● Break big ideas into high-ROI deliverable chunks, sequencing work to get maximum value to market as fast as possible.
● Work cross-functionally with Engineering, Data Science, Marketing, Sales, Legal, and Customer teams to drive successful launches and go-to-market execution — including pricing strategy, partnership conversations, and competitive positioning.
● Quantify your impact through KPIs and hold yourself accountable to the outcomes you're driving.
● Informally mentor and coach other product team members on process, roadmapping, and strategic thinking.
What Success Looks Like
In your first 6 months, you will have shipped at least one AI-powered feature that measurably improves merchant efficiency or subscriber retention, expanded Recurly's MCP server to support meaningful new agentic use cases, and established baseline KPIs that prove the business impact of your work.
Requirements
Required
● 7+ years of product management experience at a B2B SaaS company, including taking products from 0-to-1.
● 3+ years owning data, analytics, or AI/ML products — you've shipped differentiated AI-powered experiences, not just bolted AI on as an afterthought.
● Working knowledge of AI/ML services and concepts, including LLM APIs, agentic frameworks, and orchestration patterns (e.g., MCP, tool-use, RAG).
● Experience collaborating with engineering and data science teams to launch differentiated AI-driven features and user experiences.
● Strong written and verbal communication skills — you can drive clarity and influence at the C-suite level and tailor your message to any audience.
● Self-motivated, with a strong sense of ownership and a track record of driving outcomes independently.
Nice to Have
● Experience in subscription billing or lifecycle management (acquisition, engagement, retention, LTV optimization).
● Hands-on experience building or expanding MCP servers and/or integrating agentic workflows into production B2B SaaS products.
● Expertise in product instrumentation, data visualization, and building self-service reporting experiences.
● Subscription billing and management experience, ideally managing features that drive subscriber acquisition, engagement, and lifetime value.
