Job Summary:
The Principal Platform Architect will play a critical, senior role in the Cat Digital Dealer and Rental Systems team, reporting directly to the Director of Software Engineering, ERP. This role will help lead the design, architecture, and delivery of scalable enterprise solutions for Microsoft Dynamics 365 Customer Engagement and Finance & Operations, including but not limited Sales, Customer Insights, Customer Service, Field Service, Project Operations, Finance, Supply Chain Management, and Commerce. This role will serve as a functional authority in helping shape the technical strategy and solution architecture for D365 applications, designing complex solutions, and collaborating cross-functionally with product integration, DevOps, cloud infrastructure, and other development teams to ensure scalable, resilient, and future-ready solutions. This role requires deep expertise in Microsoft Dynamics 365 and Power Platform, combined with a strong understanding of manufacturing operations, supply chain processes, and enterprise systems integration.
What You Will Do:
  • Developing detailed architecture deliverables and producing solutions to solve business problems
  • Design, architect, and implement complex solutions within Dynamics 365
  • Collaborate with engineers, business analysts, and other architects on technical strategy and ensure alignment with business goals and product roadmap
  • Foster a development culture of innovation and excellence
  • Stay current with Microsoft technologies and industry trends to inform strategic decisions
  • Leading the evaluation and deployment of new features to add or enhance existing capabilities

What You Will Have:

  • Strong understanding and implementation of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis
  • Ability to determine the root cause of complex technical problems alongside the business' usage, expectations and needs
  • Approaches a complex problem by breaking it down into its component parts.

Effective Communications:
  • Provide relevant information and convey ideas, information, and business needs that cater to all audience types
  • Create presentations and perform demonstrations of application design suggestions based on technical possibilities and limitations uniting capabilities, the business needs, and user experience
  • Adapt documentation and presentations for the intended audience
  • Communicate clearly, effectively, and professionally; downward, upward, and outward

Application Design, Architecture:
  • Assess and leverage processes, techniques, existing factors, available functionality, and upcoming features that affect the Power Platform architecture
  • Facilitate application design reviews and walkthroughs
  • Create and evaluate technical alternatives for complex applications
  • Interpret application services such as APIs; integrates them with technical design
  • Prepare technical design documents and blueprints for applications

Platform Architecture:
  • Monitor platform architecture processes / standards and alignment with business objectives and product roadmap
  • Advise other teams on providing deliverables of platform architectural roadmaps to fully satisfy requirements
  • Resolve complex issues that occur in platform modeling and roadmaps design processes

Requirements Analysis:
  • Obtain, analyze, and document required business processes for functional and nonfunctional requirements to support the product roadmap
  • Play an active role in recording and organizing requirement documentation in various forms
  • Ensure the successful completion of all major deliverables pertaining to overall architecture driven by product roadmap
  • Produce detailed functional and information requirements models and documentation

Considerations For Top Candidates:
  • Proven track record of participating in large-scale enterprise software projects
  • Deep understanding of software architecture, design patterns, and agile methodologies
  • Expert level experience with Power Platform
  • Expert level experience with Dynamics 365 business process catalog / hierarchy
  • Expert level experience with Azure DevOps
  • Expert level experience with data and solution architecture
  • Extensive experience with application integration design
  • Extensive experience with JavaScript
  • Extensive experience with SQL queries and reporting
  • Extensive experience with Azure tenant and environment management
  • Working knowledge of Azure microservices and other components
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft development stack (.NET / C#)
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Fabric

Summary Pay Range:
$144,960.00 - $235,440.00
Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
