So, what’s the role?

We are seeking an exceptional Principal Data Product Manager to lead our most strategic data initiatives and shape the future of Kin's data product portfolio. As a senior leader on our Data Product team, you will drive enterprise-level data solutions that power our homeowners insurance business at scale. This role requires a unique blend of strategic vision, deep technical expertise, and the ability to influence across all levels of the organization.

In this role, you will own the strategic direction for complex, high-impact data products that span multiple teams and business functions. You will work directly with executive leadership to identify opportunities where data can transform our business, define the vision for how we leverage data to drive competitive advantage, and lead cross-functional teams to execute on that vision. You will serve as both a thought leader and hands-on practitioner, balancing strategic planning with tactical execution.

Your success will depend on your ability to navigate ambiguity, synthesize complex technical and business requirements, and build consensus among diverse stakeholders including engineering, data science, analytics, marketing, finance, insurance operations, and executive leadership. You will be expected to mentor other product managers, establish best practices for the data product team, and drive a culture of data-driven decision making across the organization. This is an opportunity to have a significant impact on a rapidly growing InsurTech company and help define the future of how insurance companies leverage data.

A day in the life could include:

  • Partnering with C-level executives and senior leadership to define the long-term strategic vision for Kin's data platform and analytics capabilities

  • Leading the discovery and validation of transformational data product opportunities that can drive significant business value, competitive differentiation, or operational efficiency

  • Owning and communicating a multi-year roadmap for enterprise data products, ensuring alignment with company OKRs and making strategic trade-off decisions on priorities

  • Architecting end-to-end data product solutions that require deep understanding of data modeling, data pipelines, analytics infrastructure, and how different data systems integrate

  • Conducting sophisticated data analysis using SQL to identify trends, validate hypotheses, and quantify the business impact of proposed solutions

  • Collaborating with data science teams to design and implement machine learning models, experimentation frameworks, and predictive analytics solutions

  • Translating complex technical concepts and data models into clear narratives for non-technical stakeholders and executive presentations

  • Leading cross-functional working groups with representatives from engineering, data engineering, data science, analytics, and business stakeholders to drive alignment on complex initiatives

  • Defining comprehensive success metrics and KPIs for your products, establishing data governance practices, and building dashboards to monitor product health and business impact

  • Mentoring and coaching junior and mid-level product managers on best practices in data product management, stakeholder management, and technical decision-making

  • Evaluating and recommending new data technologies, tools, and platforms that could enhance our data capabilities

  • Driving organizational change management to ensure successful adoption of new data products and processes across the company

  • Representing the Data Product team in executive forums and company-wide strategic planning sessions

I’ve got the skills… but do I have the necessary ones?

  • 10+ years of professional experience in product management, data analytics, or related technical roles

  • 5+ years of product management experience specifically focused on data products, analytics platforms, or business intelligence solutions

  • Proven track record of leading large-scale, complex data initiatives from conception through successful delivery and adoption

  • Expert-level proficiency in SQL with demonstrated ability to write complex queries, optimize performance, and work with large datasets

  • Strong understanding of data modeling principles including dimensional modeling, normalization, data warehousing concepts, and modern data architecture patterns

  • Working knowledge of data science methodologies including statistical analysis, machine learning concepts, A/B testing, and experimentation design

  • Experience working with modern data stacks and big data technologies (e.g., cloud data warehouses, ETL/ELT tools, BI platforms like Tableau, Looker, or similar)

Hard Skills

  • Strategic thinking with ability to connect technical solutions to business outcomes and articulate clear ROI

  • Expert ability to synthesize ambiguous, incomplete, or conflicting information into clear strategies and action plans

  • Advanced data analysis and quantitative reasoning skills

  • Strong technical acumen with ability to engage in architectural discussions with engineering teams

  • Experience with agile methodologies and leading engineering teams in fast-paced environments

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with ability to present to executive audiences
