Position Overview

Storable is seeking a Principal Architect to serve as a senior technical leader within our multi-vertical SaaS organization. Reporting to executive engineering leadership, this role is responsible for defining and stewarding the long-term architectural vision across our product portfolio, ensuring our systems evolve in a scalable, cohesive, and durable manner.

The Principal Architect will drive clarity in complex environments, guides high-impact design decisions, and elevates architectural thinking across the organization.

Scope and Strategic Impact

The Principal Architect operates at the intersection of technology, product strategy, and organizational design. Key areas of impact include:

  • Defining and stewarding the architectural vision across all SaaS product verticals, ensuring long-term coherence and adaptability.
  • Ensuring architectural decisions support scalability, resilience, maintainability, and sustained business growth.
  • Influencing technical direction across diverse technology stacks—harmonizing where it creates value, preserving autonomy where it drives innovation.
  • Serving as a trusted advisor to executive and engineering leadership on strategic technology investments, build-versus-buy decisions, and technical tradeoffs.
  • Accelerating engineering velocity and improving system health through pragmatic, high-leverage architectural improvements.
Key ResponsibilitiesEnterprise Architecture Leadership
  • Establish, evolve, and communicate architectural principles, patterns, and guardrails that apply across all product lines.
  • Lead architectural alignment across autonomous teams, balancing standardization with the flexibility needed to serve distinct market verticals.
  • Identify systemic risks, technical debt concentrations, and single points of failure; develop and champion long-term modernization strategies.
  • Define clear boundaries for where standardization creates leverage versus where flexibility delivers competitive advantage.
Software System Design and Evolution
  • Guide the design and evolution of large-scale, distributed SaaS platforms—including service decomposition, data partitioning, and fault-tolerance strategies.
  • Provide architectural review and advisory on high-impact initiatives, integrations, acquisitions, and cross-platform convergence efforts.
  • Shape service boundaries, API contracts, data architecture, event-driven patterns, and integration models.
  • Proactively reduce technical complexity and prevent long-term architectural drift through governance, documentation, and design reviews.
Strategic Influence and Partnership
  • Partner directly with VPs of Engineering, Product leadership, and other senior stakeholders to align architecture with business strategy and product roadmaps.
  • Collaborate with platform, security, infrastructure, and data engineering teams to ensure cohesive, organization-wide system design.
  • Lead through influence and expertise, driving consensus and alignment in a federated, multi-vertical environment.
  • Mentor principal engineers, senior engineers, and engineering managers, raising architectural maturity and technical judgment across the organization.
Required Qualifications
  • 15+ years of progressive experience in software engineering, with at least 5 years operating in a senior architectural or principal-level capacity.
  • Demonstrated track record of designing, evolving, and governing complex, distributed SaaS systems in production at scale.
  • Deep expertise in software architecture disciplines including API design, service-oriented and microservice architectures, domain-driven design, data modeling, and enterprise integration patterns.
  • Proven experience working across multiple product domains, technology stacks, and organizational boundaries simultaneously.
  • Strong working knowledge of AWS and cloud-native architectures (containers, serverless, managed services) sufficient to guide sound design decisions and evaluate tradeoffs.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence executives, VPs, and senior engineering stakeholders through clear communication, data-driven reasoning, and executive presence.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts for both technical and non-technical audiences.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with multi-tenant SaaS platforms operating at enterprise scale.
  • Background in organizations with multiple product verticals, particularly those shaped by acquisitive growth and portfolio integration.
  • Hands-on familiarity with event-driven architectures and modern data platform patterns.
  • Track record of leading large-scale modernization initiatives spanning cloud-native systems.
  • Experience establishing architecture review boards, technical governance frameworks, or architectural guilds.
