Owns the global product strategy, roadmap, backlog, and delivery for CSL Plasma’s US and European donor payment platforms. Partners with engineering, finance, compliance, cybersecurity, vendors, and senior stakeholders to deliver secure, compliant, personalized payment experiences. The role manages regulatory requirements, payment integrations, experimentation, fraud and risk capabilities, vendor relationships, and outcome metrics such as donor retention, payout cost, payment errors, time to payment, and disputes.

The Product Owner, Global Plasma Payments is accountable for the strategy, roadmap, and delivery of CSL Plasma's global donor payment platforms, including the Plasma US Payments (PUP) platform and European payment systems. This role drives the vision for how CSL Plasma compensates donors across markets, ensuring payment experiences are fast, accurate, secure, personalized, and compliant with regional financial regulations.

The Product Owner partners with engineering teams, business stakeholders, finance, compliance, and external payment processors to define requirements, prioritize the product backlog, and oversee end-to-end delivery of payment capabilities. This role requires a blend of payments domain expertise, product management discipline, and the ability to navigate complex regulatory environments across multiple geographies.

The donor compensation model is a strategic differentiator for CSL Plasma, not a commodity capability. Dynamic capacity-based pricing and personalized donor compensation are core reasons the platform is built rather than bought. The role owns the product decisions that deliver on that differentiation.

The role is measured on outcomes, not activities. Donor retention lift, cost per payout, payment error rate, time to first payment, and dispute rate are the metrics the role owns, instruments, and improves over time.
This position reports to: Director, Digital Products & Development

Reporting to this position: PUP Development Lead, PUP Senior Developer, and Business Analyst / Scrum Master (Payments)
Principal Accountabilities
1. Product Vision & Strategy

  • Define and own the product vision, strategy, and roadmap for CSL Plasma's global payment platforms across the US and European markets.
  • Align the payments product roadmap with business objectives, donor experience goals, regulatory requirements, and the broader Plasma digital strategy.
  • Benchmark against industry payment trends and emerging technologies (real-time payments, digital wallets, open banking) to inform product direction.
  • Shape the roadmap around AI-enabled payment intelligence where the evidence supports it, including fraud detection, transaction risk scoring, personalization of payout timing and communications, and price optimization within regulatory guardrails. Treat AI as one option among several rather than the answer to every problem.
  • Define target outcomes for each roadmap horizon (donor retention, cost per payout, payment error rate, time to first payment, dispute rate) and instrument them, so the roadmap is measured on movement in those numbers rather than on delivery of features.

2. Backlog Management & Agile Delivery

  • Own and prioritize the product backlog; author clear, detailed user stories, acceptance criteria, and functional specifications for payment features.
  • Partner with engineering leads and Scrum teams to plan sprints, review deliverables, and drive iterative releases across US and EU payment platforms.
  • Make real-time prioritization decisions that balance business value, technical feasibility, regulatory deadlines, and donor impact.
  • Write stories with an explicit hypothesis and success measure, not only acceptance criteria. Run structured test-and-learn cycles for material product decisions.
  • Maintain a continuous discovery cadence with donors and center operations, so the backlog stays anchored in evidence rather than stakeholder assumption. Regular donor interviews, usability sessions, and support-signal reviews are part of the role's rhythm.

3. Stakeholder Engagement

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for payment-related business stakeholders including Finance, Operations, Compliance, and Donor Experience teams.
  • Translate complex business and regulatory requirements into structured product requirements that engineering teams can execute.
  • Communicate roadmap progress, decisions, and trade-offs to senior leadership and cross-functional partners.
  • Treat donors as a first-class stakeholder alongside internal partners. Own the mechanisms (interviews, surveys, usability testing, in-product feedback) by which donor evidence enters the product decision process.

4. Compliance, Risk & Security

  • Ensure all payment solutions comply with PCI DSS, regional financial regulations (ACH, SEPA, GDPR), and CSL internal financial controls.
  • Partner with Legal, Compliance, and Cybersecurity teams on data privacy obligations. Treat payment fraud and risk detection as product capabilities, shaped by transaction anomaly detection, velocity checks, device signals, and increasingly by machine learning models. Fraud is a product problem, not only a compliance category.
  • Oversee UAT and validation activities for payment features in regulated and non-regulated environments.

5. Vendor & Partner Management

  • Manage relationships with external payment processors, prepaid card providers, digital wallet vendors, and banking partners.
  • Evaluate and onboard new payment technology vendors; negotiate service requirements and integration standards.
  • Bring total-cost-of-ownership discipline to vendor selection and rationalization. Model integration cost, operations cost, and change cost alongside transaction fees so vendor decisions reflect actual business impact.

Position Requirements
Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Information Systems, or related field; Master's degree preferred.

Required Skills & Experience

  • 10+ years of progressive product management experience to include at least 6 years in direct product management/ownership roles.
  • Experience owning a product backlog and working within Agile/Scrum frameworks as a certified or practiced Product Owner.
  • Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and influencing skills up to senior leadership level.
  • Ability to translate complex regulatory and compliance requirements into actionable product specifications.
  • Experience working across multiple geographies and regulatory environments, particularly US and European markets.
  • Strong analytical skills; able to interpret payment data and operational metrics to drive product decisions.
  • Data literacy at product-owner level. Comfortable working directly with payment data, defining metrics, and using them in prioritization decisions.
  • Familiarity with product experimentation practice, including A/B testing, holdout groups, and appropriate statistical rigor for product decisions.
  • Working knowledge of AI-enabled payment product features (fraud, risk, personalization, pricing) at a level sufficient to make informed roadmap decisions about them.

Preferred Skills & Experience

  • Prior life sciences, healthcare, or pharmaceutical industry experience, or prior direct experience with 21 CFR Part 11, HIPAA, GxP, or EU Annex 11.
  • Knowledge of SEPA, EU payment regulations, GDPR, and European banking standards.
  • Familiarity with prepaid debit programs, stored value accounts, or donor incentive platforms.
  • Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO) or SAFe Product Owner/Product Manager certification.
  • Prior experience shipping AI or ML features within a payments or financial services product.
  • Understanding of PCI DSS compliance requirements and payment security standards.
  • Knowledge of payment ecosystems, including ACH, prepaid card programs, real-time payments, digital wallets, and card network processing.

Competencies

  • Strategic Vision — connects payment product decisions to broader donor experience and business outcomes.
  • Decisive Leadership — makes clear prioritization decisions under ambiguity and competing stakeholder demands.
  • Regulatory Acumen — navigates complex financial and data privacy regulations with confidence.
  • Collaborative Partnership — builds trust with engineering, finance, legal, and operations to deliver payment solutions.
  • Donor-Centric Mindset — advocates for seamless, equitable, and reliable payment experiences for all donors.
  • Data Fluency -- Reads product metrics, forms hypotheses from them, and makes evidence-based prioritization calls. Treats data as a first-class input to product decisions, not a supporting artifact.
  • AI Product Awareness -- Understands where AI can genuinely improve a payments product and where it cannot. Sees AI as one option among several rather than as a novelty to force in.
