Onebrief is collaboration and AI-powered workflow software designed specifically for military staffs. By transforming this work, Onebrief makes the staff as a whole superhuman - meaning faster, smarter, and more efficient.
We take ownership, seek excellence, and play to win with the seriousness and camaraderie of an Olympic team. Onebrief operates as an all-remote company, though many of our employees work alongside our customers at military commands around the world.
Founded in 2019 by a group of experienced planners, today, Onebrief’s team spans veterans from all forces and global organizations, and technologists from leading-edge software companies. We’ve raised $123m+ from top-tier investors, including Battery Ventures, General Catalyst, Insight Partners, and Human Capital, and today, Onebrief is valued at $1.1B. With this continued growth, Onebrief is able to make an impact where it matters most.
About the roleWe’re hiring a Platform Engineer to join the Platform team. This is a strategic role focused on building and scaling the foundations that power Onebrief’s Commercial‑off‑the‑Shelf (COTS) application across government environments at multiple classification levels. Your work enables fast, reliable delivery while meeting stringent Department of Defense (DoD) requirements.
You’ll partner with DevOps, Site Reliability, and application engineers. The scope is deeply technical with meaningful ownership; you’ll shape platform systems, guide key decisions, and support delivery with clarity and presence.
We’re looking for someone who treats infrastructure as a product, sees systems as leverage, and thrives in constraint‑heavy, mission‑critical environments.
Location:Remote‑first (U.S.), but candidates are ideally located in one of the following cities due to proximity to military hubs and related government contracts: San Diego, Honolulu, Seattle, Colorado Springs, Austin, Washington, DC, Tampa.
Security clearance:Active Secret required; willing and able to obtain TS/SCI
About youYou lead with context and a calm mind. You treat infrastructure as a product; you automate what matters, capture it in docs, and leave systems easier to operate than you found them. You’re comfortable moving from a kubectl shell to a design review, and you translate constraints into clear guardrails for the team.
Reliability beats novelty. You default to secure configurations, steady releases, and fast recovery when things break. Incident write‑ups and runbooks are a core part of the job, not afterthoughts. You collaborate well with application teams and SRE, mentor without grandstanding, and ask for help early.
What you’ll doYou’ll own the backbone of Onebrief’s COTS deployments: automate, secure, and scale the platform so product teams can move fast without breaking trust. You’ll do this by:
Building and automating the platformDesign, provision, and manage cloud and on‑prem environments with Terraform and Ansible; operate secure, resilient Kubernetes clusters for multi‑level deployments.
Designing and evolving CI/CDReduce lead time and maintain strict gates and environment parity by improving pipelines in GitLab CI/CD, Jenkins, and GitHub Actions.
Upholding reliability, security, and compliancePartner with SREs to implement monitoring, logging, and alerting (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK/Datadog); embed RMF and STIG controls into automation and day‑to‑day operations.
Operating and optimizing our footprintManage AWS/Azure/GCP resources and on‑prem networks. Balance cost, performance, and security while unblocking product teams.
Supporting the team, documenting, and mentoringTriage and resolve complex platform issues; write clear docs for architectures and runbooks; share context and mentor teammates.
QualificationsExperience & collaboration5+ years in Platform, DevOps, or Site Reliability Engineering with an infrastructure and operations focus.
Proven partner to DevOps/SRE and application teams; collaborates well across functions and shares context openly.
Clear, concise writing; strong documentation habits and async communication.
Infrastructure as Code: Terraform (or CloudFormation), Ansible.
Containers and orchestration: Docker; Kubernetes design, deployment, and operations.
CI/CD: experience building and maintaining pipelines (GitLab CI/CD, Jenkins, GitHub Actions).
Scripting: proficiency with at least one of Python, Go, or Bash.
Cloud and on‑prem: AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud; familiarity with on‑prem virtualization.
Observability: Prometheus, Grafana, ELK stack, or Datadog.
Networking fundamentals: core protocols and secure configurations.
Eligibility for a Top Secret clearance. U.S. citizenship required.
Experience in DoD environments and compliance frameworks (RMF, STIGs, ICD 503).
GitOps practices and toolchains.
Security‑minded design for sensitive environments.
Service mesh exposure (Istio, Linkerd).
Relevant certifications (e.g., AWS DevOps Engineer, CKA/CKAD).
Strong interpersonal skills; comfortable collaborating across diverse teams.
