What does this team do?
We launched Motley Fool Money to provide top-notch personal finance advice and review critical financial products like credit cards, mortgages, brokers, banking accounts, insurance, personal loans, and more. There’s some good (and a lot of bad) advice out there, and we’re cutting through the noise that often leaves people feeling helpless and insecure about these key financial decisions. From the tools we build, to our thorough and impartial reviews, to our overall design, we’ll highlight what matters -- and save our readers time and money.

In the past 7 years Motley Fool Money has grown rapidly and is one of the biggest websites in its space, reaching millions of people monthly. But still, we feel that we’re just getting started and are investing in growing the team to further our (and our readers’) goals. It’s not an exaggeration to say that in this role you’d be directly helping millions of people toward a more successful financial future.

What would you do in this role?
We are looking for a full-time Personal Finance Staff Writer to join our team at Fool.com/Money. This role is perfect for a self-starter with a strong interest in personal finance, excellent writing skills, and a knack for using data to drive meaningful business outcomes. The ideal candidate will craft insightful and engaging content while leveraging performance metrics to continually refine their work and contribute to the site's growth.

But what does this role actually do?

  • Write clear, engaging, and actionable articles on a variety of personal finance topics, including credit cards, banking, loans, budgeting, and financial planning.
  • Write short-form editorial content, as well as long-form evergreen topic guides, reviews, and best-of lists.
  • Produce a high volume of content, efficiently.
  • Conduct thorough research to ensure accuracy, credibility, and value for readers.
  • Analyze content performance metrics (e.g., traffic, engagement, conversions) to inform future writing and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Collaborate with editorial and SEO teams to optimize articles for search visibility and audience engagement.
  • Use data-driven insights to align content strategy with business objectives, focusing on driving revenue and user growth.
  • Stay updated on trends and news in the personal finance industry to produce timely, relevant content.
  • Generate innovative content ideas based on market trends, audience needs, and data analysis.
  • Leverage AI tools to assist in writing structure, velocity, and idea generation, ensuring efficiency and creative breakthroughs.

What do you need to apply?:

  • A proven personal finance voice with a strong portfolio of published work – bonus points if you’ve written for high-authority sites or built a following based on your financial expertise.
  • Hands-on knowledge of financial products like credit cards, bank accounts, and loans.
  • Strong editorial judgment and writing chops – you can write clean, compelling copy quickly.
  • Experience using data to improve performance – you're comfortable writing with revenue targets in mind and know how to analyze past performance to inform and optimize future work.
  • Comfort with AI-assisted writing workflows – you know how to use tools like ChatGPT to speed up research and ideation without sacrificing quality or originality.
  • A track record of independence – you can own assignments end to end without hand-holding.
  • Financial credentials (CFP, CFA, CPA) are a plus, but deep subject matter fluency and credibility are even more important.

A bachelor’s degree in journalism, finance, economics, or a related field is preferred, but not required if your portfolio speaks for itself.
