Description

City Cast is hiring a People & Culture Manager to help us grow thoughtfully, onboard wisely, and nurture the people-first culture that makes our team special.

City Cast makes local podcasts and newsletters in cities across the U.S., and we’re expanding quickly. We’re looking for a kind, genuine, incredibly human HR leader to join our collaborative leadership team. This role will be central to helping us scale in ways that support both our people and our mission.

The People & Culture Manager will manage a wide range of responsibilities; from performance reviews and developing training to benefits management and employee relations, all while keeping compliance in check and culture at the center. The ideal candidate is both people-savvy and detail-oriented, with a practical mindset, strong communication skills, and a deep respect for the real humans behind the work.

This role reports to our COO, and while City Cast is a small (and mighty!) company, we’ve got big support behind us. Thanks to our parent company, Graham Holdings, you’ll have the best of both worlds: a close-knit leadership team, plus access to a broader network of HR pros across other Graham companies. You'll never be alone in figuring things out, and the Graham HR team is there to support and collaborate with you on various HR matters.

We’re a fully remote company with a highly collaborative and collegial environment. If you care deeply about building inclusive, supportive, and thriving workplaces, and want to help shape the future of local media, we’d love to meet you.

Application Deadline: Friday, September 12th

People Operations

  • Serve as the primary HR partner for the City Cast team and act as a trusted resource for employees and leadership.
  • Own key people and culture programs including onboarding, performance reviews, open enrollment, and employee retention initiatives.
  • Act as the go-to expert on employee benefits, working closely with our parent company and Operations Coordinator to communicate updates and roll out new programs.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
  • Administer employee leave programs, ensuring compliance and support for employees throughout the process.
  • Lead compensation strategy and analysis to ensure pay remains competitive across all City Cast markets.
  • Work with COO and leadership team to develop people operations policy and reassess policy as needed

Performance & Development

  • Develop our people managers by creating tools and learning opportunities that help them grow into stronger, more effective leaders.
  • Be a connector and coach: help leadership navigate personnel matters, provide guidance on employee relations.
  • Support managers and employees in goal setting, feedback, and career development conversations.
  • Identify training opportunities and help coordinate learning programs.

Culture & Employee Engagement

  • Champion initiatives that promote City Cast values of diversity, sustainability and respect.
  • Oversee employee recognition, culture building projects, and internal communications that reinforce core values.
  • Work with the CEO to execute an annual employee survey that measures employee engagement, morale, and satisfaction.
Requirements

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Confidence and enthusiasm about HR and culture building.
  • Relishes working in a nimble, casual startup environment.
  • Project management skills and ability to drive programs independently.
  • Passion for supporting employee engagement and workplace culture initiatives and strategies.
  • HR experience in a media or digital organization.
  • Experience developing programs and initiatives for a remote-first organization.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 5 years of HR experience.
  • BA/BS degree with emphasis in HR or equivalent years of field-related experience.
Benefits

The People & Culture Manager will report to City Cast’s Chief Operating Officer. This position is full-time and remote, with excellent benefits. Salary range is $80,000 - $100,000 depending on experience. City Cast is an equal opportunity employer committed to excellence through diversity, which involves attracting talented people from diverse backgrounds and traditions. We encourage everyone to apply.
