The Payroll and Commissions Lead is responsible for ensuring the accurate and timely processing of payroll and commission payments. This role involves managing end-to-end payroll operations, maintaining compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, and ensuring proper calculation of commissions in line with company policies. The Lead will collaborate with finance, HR, and sales teams to resolve discrepancies, perform audits, and generate payroll reports. This role will also oversee the T&E reimbursement process which is conducted in Concur. A key part of the role is to analyze payroll data, optimize processes, and ensure the smooth functioning of payroll systems while maintaining confidentiality and data integrity.
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES & KEY PERFORMANCE OUTCOMES
- Oversee 3rd party payroll processor and ensure the accuracy and completeness of payroll related data within Workday
- Collaborate with 3rd party processor to troubleshoot and resolve any tax filing discrepancies
- Manage the timely resolution of employee questions regarding payroll and expense reimbursements
- Manage full-cycle payroll processing for approximately 350 employees (bi-weekly and semi-monthly payrolls) and 40 states, ensuring accuracy and compliance with federal, state, and local laws
- Reconcile payroll data, including accruals, earnings, deductions, taxes, and benefits
- Calculate commission payments based on individual and team performance metrics and SIP (Sales Incentive Plans)
- Collaborate with sales, finance, and HR teams to address commission-related queries and discrepancies
- Conduct regular audits / reconciliations of payroll and commissions data to ensure accuracy and identify any discrepancies
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of changes in payroll laws and commission structures
- Partner with HRIS to identify and resolve payroll system issues, implement process improvements and perform payroll related updates in Workday (creation of new earnings / deductions codes, reports, etc.)
- Participate in the implementation of payroll or commission software upgrades and enhancements.
- Respond to employee inquiries related to payroll, commissions, deductions, and taxes in a timely manner.
- Supervise team member responsible for T&E processing
- Collaborate with internal teams to improve payroll and commission processes, ensuring employee satisfaction.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field or equivalent work experience
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in payroll processing, with exposure to commission calculations.
- Experience with payroll and HR software systems such as Workday, ADP, Concur or similar platforms.
- Proven ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Payroll certifications FPC or CPP (or pursuing)
- Workday, Concur experience as well as proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Results oriented team-member who owns responsibilities and sees tasks through to completion
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize work based on urgency and impact
- Ability to build partnerships and effectively work with internal customers at all levels in the organization
