Job Description:

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Patent Manager to lead HPE’s Patent function and strategically develop our patent portfolio to bring value and mitigate risk. This role offers the successful candidate an opportunity to lead a team of patent attorneys/agents and drive cross-department initiatives in close collaboration with other IP functions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage a team of patent attorneys and agents.
  • Strategically develop and manage HPE’s patent portfolio to maximize value and minimize risk.
  • Collaborate closely with other IP functions and cross-department teams.
  • Provide thought leadership both internally and externally, staying abreast of IP trends and best practices.
  • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills and strong technical expertise.
  • Exhibit a proactive mindset and thorough understanding of patent portfolio management and operations.
  • Manage time effectively and show good business judgment.
  • Engage collaboratively with senior leadership and contribute to strategic decision-making.
  • Utilize presentation tools and data aggregation/analysis tools to support IP initiatives.

Education and Experience:

  • JD degree from a top law school.
  • Demonstrated strong academic achievement.
  • Admission to a state bar and the USPTO.
  • 10+ years’ experience as an attorney.

Additional Experience:

  • Demonstrated experience developing and executing a patent strategy, including a strong understanding of related areas such as IP transactions, licensing, open source, trademarks, litigation, and copyrights.
  • Demonstrated experience successfully leading a team supporting high technology clients.
  • Experience in a large corporate environment.
  • Experience managing a complex budget and operations.
  • Ability to work with clients in a team-oriented partnership to help them arrive at elegant solutions to their problems.
  • Flexibility to accept new and different challenges in a fast-paced, high-tech environment.
  • Excellent executive presence and communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
  • High EQ with a positive attitude and a creative spirit.
  • Proven experience in patent portfolio management and operations.
  • Strong technical skills and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Creative and growth-oriented mindset.
  • Significant experience with presentation tools and data aggregation/analysis tools is preferred.
  • Thought leadership in the IP field and a keen understanding of industry trends.

The expected salary/wage range for a U.S.-based hire filling this position is provided below. Actual offer may vary from this range based upon geographic location, work experience, education/training, and/or skill level. If this is a sales role, then the listed salary range reflects combined base salary and target-level sales compensation pay. If this is a non-sales role, then the listed salary range reflects base salary only. Variable incentives may also be offered. USD Annual Salary: $155,500.00 - $376,000.00
