CSG is organized by core customer-facing lines of business to manage and grow programs within the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), United States Geological Survey (USGS), and the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA), while extending our capabilities to other civilian federal government agencies fully integrated within Aerospace rules, regulations, processes, values, and behaviors.
Within CSG, the Human Exploration and Spaceflight (HESF) Division supports our NASA customer in all aspects of human space flight and program office activities. This position will support NASA's Space Operations Mission Directorate (SOMD) and Commercial LEO Development Program (CLDP) senior leadership as a Strategy and Policy Subject Matter Expert (Senior Project Engineer - Systems Engineering), providing program office advisory skills on an as needed basis.
Work Model
This is a part-time position (20 hours/week) based in Houston, TX at NASA's Johnson Space Center, offering a hybrid work model that combines 3 regular onsite workdays and remote flexibility as the business needs allow.
What You'll Be Doing

  • Work with NASA senior leadership to develop strategies and technically advise on legislative matters.
  • Develop technical strategic plans to support low earth orbit initiatives
  • Provide technical review and guidance for NASA led industry day and acquisition efforts
  • Advise program management teams on how to engage in international and domestic partnerships
  • Refine technical integration and communications products and contribute to refining content and establishing strategy and vision
  • Participate in NASA Program office and Artemis Program Office forums as well as International Space Station and Commercial LEO Development (CLD) initiatives
  • Formulate recommendations to senior-level program management on legislative and policy issues in alignment with SOMD and CLD mission objectives
  • Serve as a highly proactive advisory specialist, understanding issues and formulating options/recommendations, while working closely with teams and across other offices, working groups, and panels
  • Collaborate with Engineering Technology Group subject matter experts and key NASA stakeholders to develop responsive solutions and recommendations to NASA challenges identified
  • Attend various meetings and conferences, both regularly scheduled and intermittent
  • Develop special reports/discussions of findings, issues, conclusions, recommendations, and risk assessments
  • Develop periodic status reports to support internal and customer leadership engagement.
  • Perform other duties for the customer as required


What You Need to be Successful
Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science degree or advanced degree in engineering, science, or related discipline
  • 10 or more years of increasingly responsible professional experience, including experience in a system engineering and/or program management environment
  • Ability to effectively utilize oral and written communication to express technical concepts and recommendations to personnel at all technical and managerial levels
  • Ability to work in a quick-paced, small core team that leads technical discussions across a large technical community and influences teams across the NASA enterprise
  • Experience supporting and advising legislative and policy initiatives
  • Demonstrated initiative and ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with customers
  • Excellent teaming and leadership skills with an ability to multi-task across various issues/disciplines simultaneously
  • Excellent presentation and communications skills, including development and briefing of decision packages and complex information in a succinct and polished manner
  • This position may require ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, which is issued by the U.S. government. U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.
