THE OPPORTUNITY
Unknown Worlds is seeking a skilled and creative Organic Prop / Foliage Artist to join the Subnautica 2 team on a 6-month contract. The ideal candidate will demonstrate expert knowledge of sculpting, modeling, and texturing organic assets, with a passion for creating immersive natural environments filled with plants, rocks, and other organic props that enrich the world of Subnautica.
This is a remote position on a globally distributed team.RESPONSIBILITIES
- Create high-quality organic 3D assets (plants, foliage, rocks, natural props) based on 2D concept art and references.
- Collaborate closely with environment, design, and technical art teams to ensure assets integrate seamlessly into gameplay.
- Ensure all organic art assets meet aesthetic, technical, and gameplay requirements as defined by the team.
- Work with art leadership to maintain consistency in visual style and quality across the project.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Expert-level skills in sculpting, modeling, and texturing organic and natural environment assets.
- Extensive experience creating foliage, vegetation systems, rocks, and other organic props for real-time games.
- Proficiency with Blender (or equivalent 3D modeling software).
- Strong understanding of texture/material workflows and optimization for foliage and organic assets.
- Proven portfolio showcasing a range of high-quality organic and foliage assets.
- 5+ years of professional experience in a game art role.
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills in a cross-disciplinary team.
PREFERENCES
- Previous experience working on stylized and sci-fi environments.
- Familiarity with Unreal Engine foliage tools and workflows.
- Experience with Substance Painter/Designer for organic texturing.
- Strong foundation in traditional art skills such as sculpting, drawing, or painting
- Experience with shaders or procedural workflows for foliage/organic asset generation.
