Since opening a year ago, the Beck Venture Center has quickly become a major hub for innovation and startups in Colorado. Part of the Colorado School of Mines campus, we have over 31,000 square feet of coworking, event, and innovation space and have incubated over 60 companies, so far, that have raised over $30MM in funding. And we are just getting started!

 

In this role of Operations Manager, you will be a key member of the team at Beck and in charge of everything related to our beautiful building and its operations. From managing the physical environment of our amazing spaces, to creating a welcoming atmosphere for our Members, to hiring and managing a team of student employees, to being the main point of contact for Beck across campus, you will have one of the most important jobs on the team.

 

Responsibilities

 

​​Building Management:

 

The Beck Venture Center is a beautiful, award-winning, 31,000 square foot startup incubator, accelerator, event, and coworking space. This role will manage all aspects of the physical and program operations here at Beck:

 

• Manage the end-to-end process of Member contracting and setup

 

• Manage the Co-working Management System used for access, bookings, and accounts at Beck

 

• Manage invoicing and payments for members

 

• Manage the interactions and interfaces with the broader campus at large. Including, but not limited to: Lockshop, Mail Room, Student Services, Office of Design & Construction, Environmental Health & Safety, campus police, and food services.

 

• Assist in developing and managing budgets for building maintenance, repairs, and improvements. Monitor expenses and identify cost-effective solutions to optimize resource utilization.

 

• Manage the allocation and assignment of workspaces, meeting rooms, and amenities to members based on their preferences and needs. Ensure efficient space utilization and adaptability to accommodate changing member requirements.

 

• Partner with Information Technology Services to oversee the installation and maintenance of technology infrastructure, including internet connectivity, audio-visual equipment, and office automation systems.

 

• Identify areas for improvement in building operations and customer experience. Propose and implement innovative solutions to enhance the overall coworking space environment.

 

• Hiring and direct management of student workers

 

Department Management:

Provide oversight and coordination of department operations and administrative functions. Collaborate with the Director on strategic planning as well as provide operational oversight, departmental management and executive administration to the Director. Essential functions include:

 

• Provide oversight and coordination of business and administrative functions. Work with the Director to create and implement departmental policies and procedures, in accordance with existing Mines policies. At the discretion of the Director, make decisions on behalf of the department with regards to purchasing and hiring administration. This requires intimate and up-to-date knowledge of the Faculty Handbook policies and procedures, specialized and up-to-date fiscal knowledge of allowed expenditures on various types of accounts, as well as up-to-date knowledge on HR policies and procedures.

 

• Support Director by scheduling appointments and doing other administrative tasks in support of work Director does for department

 

• Evaluate business processes and operational and/or financial effectiveness. In partnership with other departments on campus, analyze and resolve complex issues and provide alternative solutions as necessary. May lead process improvement for department.

 

• Analyze department operational needs and make recommendations to leadership for changes in staffing, facilities, health and safety compliance, finance, technology and/or administrative functions. Must maintain up to date knowledge of processes related to space management and utilization (and allocations within the department for all faculty, students and staff) on campus.

 

• Apply specialized knowledge of department and university metrics and reporting systems, provide analysis and data trends to the Director for the development of strategic plans and preparation of annual reports

 

• Communicate updates on departmental activities and coordinate interdisciplinary activities with appropriate University, Portfolio, and Departmental counterparts

 

• Partner with HR to serve as the hiring manager for the department to coordinate searches for faculty and staff for the department. Coordinate onboarding of new hires. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of all HR policies and procedures.

 

• Supervise and lead other department support positions, if applicable

 

• Be the first point of contact for members, addressing inquiries, concerns, and feedback in a timely and professional manner

 

• Develop and maintain strong relationships with existing members, understanding their individual needs and providing personalized support

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

• Bachelor's degree in Hospitality, Facilities Management, Business Administration, or a related field

• Proven experience in operations management within the coworking, real estate, or hospitality industry

• Evidence of strong project management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines

• Proficiency in using software tools for scheduling, maintenance tracking, and resource management

Annual Rate

 

$65,000 - $75,000

 

Mines takes into consideration a combination of candidate's education, training and experience as well as the position's scope and complexity, the discretion and latitude required in the role, work location, and external market and internal value when determining a salary level for potential new employees.
