Our amazing user community provides us with real-time feedback and contributions to improve the developer experience everywhere.

Backed by top VC firms, we have built a team of professionals from various successful start-ups and well-known technology companies. Together, we collaborate cross-functionally, engage with and support our users to improve the developer experience, deliver world-class open-source software, and enhance our commercial SaaS platform.

Temporal is growing and working towards building the best community. We are looking for those who share our values, challenge 'standard' thinking, and want to influence our future. If you have a passion for helping developer communities, open-source software, and want to be a part of our amazing team, we'd love to hear from you!
Summary
We're seeking an Open Source Community Outreach Lead to grow our presence, influence, and credibility in the broader open source ecosystem. This role is ideal for someone who understands both the technical and human sides of open source—and who sees contribution not just as maintenance, but as a way to grow our global community of contributors.

You'll help position our company as a trusted, active member of key developer communities by increasing the volume and visibility of our open source contributions, code samples, and collaborative initiatives. You’ll work closely with Engineering, Developer Relations, and Product to align contribution efforts with both developer needs and strategic goals.

What You'll Do
  • Identify high-impact open source projects (ours and others’) where contributions will build credibility, trust, and visibility with key developer audiences, including backend engineers, software architects, platform engineers, fullstack engineers, Data/AI/ML engineers, and SREs.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to grow and maintain a vibrant portfolio of example projects, SDKs, and integrations.
  • Enable and support engineers in contributing to third-party projects (especially in adjacent ecosystems where our developers live).
  • Track and report on contribution growth, adoption metrics, and the impact of our presence in OSS communities.
  • Represent Temporal in community working groups, SIGs, and foundation initiatives.
  • Partner with Developer Marketing and DevRel to tell authentic stories about our OSS involvement and amplify our presence.
What Success Looks Like
  • A measurable increase in code contributions to Temporal’s Code Exchange from both internal and external contributors.
  • Growing awareness of our technical brand among contributors and maintainers in relevant ecosystems.
  • A more diverse and distributed group of company engineers engaging with open source.
  • A visible and respected presence in community governance, standards, or SIG conversations.
What You Bring
  • Strong experience contributing to or stewarding open source projects—whether as an engineer, advocate, or community leader.
  • A solid understanding of open source governance, licensing, and contribution best practices.
  • The ability to align contribution strategy with developer personas and marketing goals without compromising authenticity.
  • Excellent cross-functional collaboration skills, especially working with engineering, product, and developer relations.
  • A passion for developer experience and sustainable community building.

Compensation
  • The estimated pay range for this role is $176,400 - $220,500.
  • Additionally, this role is eligible to participate in Temporal's equity plan.
Compensation ranges reflect salary and commission compensation (when applicable) across several geographic markets. Employment offers carefully consider multiple factors, including prior experience, knowledge, expertise, skillset, market location, and job level assessed during the interview process.
