About the Role

The Open Source Community Manager is responsible for building and nurturing relationships with current and prospective maintainers, developers, and community members in strategic open source projects (Fluent Bit, Prometheus, OpenTelemetry, and Perses). The ultimate goals are to raise awareness, increase engagement, and drive adoption and usage of and contribution to Fluent Bit, and other communities we maintain or see as strategic partnerships. This role requires a blend of technical expertise, communication skills, marketing understanding, and relationship-building abilities to support the growth and success of our developer community. Importantly, you are part of a developer and community relations team that inspires an open-source mindset across the organization and measures the impact these communities have on our business.

You Will:

  • Cultivate and establish relationships with developers and maintainers throughout our communities.

  • Grow the developer community with initiatives and stories that establish Fluent Bit (and Chronosphere) as an active destination for both new and existing developers.

  • Be a thoughtful point of contact for maintainers and community members to help recognize, reward, and amplify the work they're doing with Fluent organization and with Chronosphere.

  • Be an active part of the open source ecosystem rather than a marketer to the community, fostering connections between community members and encouraging them to support and guide each other.

  • Collaborate with community maintainers and product management to support answering questions posted on our community forums.

  • Engage with the community through various means, including slack, social media, conferences, and other online forums, moderating, engaging, answering questions, and supporting users across channels.

  • Become a trusted advisor to the maintainers of our community projects.

  • Organize and manage community meetups, hackathons, presence of community project(s) at industry events, and other engagements, working closely with marketing and community maintainers as needed.

  • Create or manage the creation of technical and open-source content (e.g., tutorials, blog posts, FAQs, etc.) to engage with the developer community.

  • Develop and publish metrics on open-source contributions or other data to show success of Fluent Bit and our open source/standards work. Work with Marketing to publicize open-source activities.

  • Help draft speaking abstracts or pitches for our thought leaders and SMEs across the company.

  • Celebrate community successes by sending swag and recognizing top contributors.

  • Manage GitHub permissions, access, and settings as needed.

You Have:

  • 5+ years of experience at a high-tech, SaaS, or B2B company, ideally in product management or product marketing.

  • 3+ years of experience working with developer communities. General experience working with an open source or other industry community and the ability to build engagement and scale with a community is ideal.

  • Understanding of and a passion for observability and telemetry technologies.

  • A passion for engineering culture, languages, and tools. Deep empathy for developers and a customer-centric mindset.

  • Experience encouraging communities to ask questions, voice concerns, create community traditions, and generate ideas.

  • Ability to present complex technical information clearly and concisely.

  • Events management experience, from small meet-ups to large conferences.

  • Curiosity, open-mindedness, and a consistently positive attitude.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication, receptive listening skills, and ability to present to different audiences (Executives, Sales, Customer Success, etc.).

  • Capacity to execute in a fast-paced, remote-first work environment.

  • Comfort with ambiguity amid a rapidly-evolving business landscape .

  • Strong analytical mindset, with the ability to derive insights from complex datasets and translate them into actionable strategies.

  • Ability to travel up to 25%, including international travel.
