OBGYN - CNM

Job Summary
Provides clinical care to patients in the OBGYN department that may include antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum, and primary or specialty gynecologic services. Provides primary health care services from adolescence through menopause including the provision of family planning services, diagnosis and treatment of illnesses, health promotion, disease prevention, and individualized wellness education and counseling. Supervises and teaches students and residents in the clinical setting.

Additionally provides site leadership at one or more Department of OBGYN clinical locations. Works closely with the RN manager, outpatient MD leadership, and APP staff to monitor quality of care, patient access, staff engagement, and provide mentorship for midwives, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants. Directly reports to the OBGYN APP supervisor regarding all clinic team lead responsibilities.


Essential Functions:

  • Evaluates and monitors health condition of patient in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team, according to standards of care and current clinical practice guidelines. Refers to specialty services as needed. (20%)
  • Participates as a preceptor for medical students, interns, midwife students, nurse practitioner students, and physician assistant students. (10%)
  • Performs gynecologic and obstetrical procedures within scope of expertise including but not limited to provision of long- acting reversible contraceptives and limited OB ultrasound. (20%)
  • Prescribes medications within scope of practice including controlled substances and contraceptives. (10%)
  • Completes required clinical documentation in an accurate, thorough and timely manner. (10%)
  • Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, reviewing current literature, and attending in-service meetings and workshops. (5%)
  • Supports patient autonomy in decision making. (5%)
  • Attends administrative staff meetings to present clinical concerns. Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, quality improvement, safety, environmental and infection control standards. (5%)
  • Participates in staff management responsibilities including reviewing and addressing patient experience and STARs reports, contributing to annual evaluations, and communicating process changes to local team. (5%)
  • Works with outpatient leadership to monitor quality measures, and identify and initiate quality improvement activities. (5%)
  • Collaborates with local clinic manager for clinic processes including productivity, patient flow, team building, hiring of clinic support staff, and planning/running team meetings. (5%)


Education:

  • Master's Degree Required


Work Experience:

  • 1-3 years Two years of OBGYN advanced practice provider experience (CNM, WHNP, PA-C), preferably including management or leadership experience. Required


Licenses:

  • WHNP-Women's Health Nurse Practitioner - NCC - National Certification Corporation Required and
  • NP-Nurse Practitioner - DORA - Department of Regulatory Agencies Required and
  • NPRXN-Nurse Practitioner Prescriber - DORA - Department of Regulatory Agencies Required or
  • CNM-Certified Nurse Midwife - AMCB - American Midwifery Certification Board Required and
  • CNM-Certified Nurse Midwife - DORA - Department of Regulatory Agencies Required and
  • CNMRXN-Nurse Midwife Prescriber - DORA - Department of Regulatory Agencies Required and
  • NRP-Neonatal Resuscitation Program - AHA - American Heart Association Required or
  • PA-Physician Assistant - State Medical Board Required and
  • PAC-Certified Physician Assistant - NCCPA - National Commission for Certifying Agencies Required and
  • BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) - AHA - American Heart Association or American Red Cross Required


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Antenatal, intrapartum, and postpartum care and/or management of gynecologic conditions.
  • Family planning advice and the provision of contraception, including long-acting reversible contraceptive devices
  • Empathic communication and trauma-informed care
  • Computer skills required include fluency in use of Electronic Health Records and word processing.
  • Skill in teaching in the clinical setting
