Summary:
The Boulder Daily Camera and Longmont Times-Call newspapers in Boulder County, CO, are looking for a Deputy City Editor, working evenings, Tuesday through Saturday, in our Boulder County newsroom. We are seeking a seasoned journalist with 2+ years of experience as an editor, who is a skilled wordsmith and master of AP style, who has a sharp eye for detail, and who can work closely with our reporting staff to improve both their reporting and storytelling. We're looking for someone who can remain calm and collected — and make smart decisions — in high-stress, deadline situations.
Applicants must live in the Boulder County area or be ready and willing to relocate (no relocation assistance offered).
What you will do:

Edit daily and longer-term stories for the newspapers' websites and print editions

Coordinate our news coverage of Boulder County, its communities and surrounding areas

Update the websites of the Camera, Times-Call and their sister newspapers

Collaborate with and coach reporting staff, including educating on AP style and best practices

Coordinate coverage and special projects with editors in other Prairie Mountain Media markets

Establish good working relationships within our organization and within the communities we serve

Effectively utilize our web content-management systems and social media platforms
What you will bring:
-
Degree in journalism, communication or equivalent experience
-
A minimum of two years of experience as an editor at a daily newspaper or online news outlet

Experience in news editing, reporting and writing, using social media, creating enterprising content
-
Ability to coach reporters and lead them through breaking news situations
-
Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills
-
An understanding of the imperatives of emerging and existing platforms, including web, mobile and print
-
Proven production deadline performance
-
An attitude that contributes to a positive culture of teamwork and collaboration
-
Willingness to experiment with new digital tools and platforms
-
Have flexibility to work weekends and holidays on a rotational basis as well as odd hours if necessary/news requires
Benefits and Compensation:
The annual salary is $55,000. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, time in role, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, the Company offers eligible employees a variety of benefits including medical, dental, life and disability insurance, 401k, as well as paid time off and select paid holidays (all benefits are based on eligibility).
