The Team: 

Upstart’s Mailroom team is responsible for handling mailing logistics for Upstart's Operation Departments. We ensure Upstart’s mailing policies and procedures are executed correctly and in compliance with State and Federal regulations in order to mitigate any business risks.

As the Senior Mailroom Specialist at Upstart, you will play a foundational role in establishing and shaping the mailroom function from the ground up. In this role, you will be responsible for identifying, processing, and managing all inbound and outbound mail for various departments and employees. You’ll handle the full mail lifecycle: sorting, opening, scanning, distributing, and recording all physical mail into our CRM system.

We’re looking for someone who is not only operationally strong but also quick to learn, detail-oriented, and capable of identifying process improvements. You’ll have the opportunity to design and execute mailroom workflows, drive efficiency, and lead mailing-related initiatives in collaboration with cross-functional teams.


Position Location - This role is available in the following locations: In person role in Columbus, OH

Time Zone Requirements -  The team operates on the East/West coast time zones. This person will be expected to work 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM EST.

Travel Requirements - You must be capable of arriving at Upstart's Columbus Headquarters on a daily basis, Monday through Friday, before the scheduled  shift time.


How you’ll make an impact:

  • Establish and manage end-to-end mailroom operations, ensuring accurate and timely processing of inbound and outbound mail.
  • Quickly learn and adapt to our systems and processes while identifying areas of improvement in mailroom workflows and execution.
  • Digitally distribute inbound mail to the appropriate departments in a timely manner to maintain compliance with State and Federal regulations and ensure strong customer satisfaction.
  • Proactively plan, propose, and implement improvements to mailing processes, systems, and logistics to support a scalable operation.
  • Build strong working relationships with cross-functional teams, both in-office and remote, to resolve mailing issues and enhance collaboration.
  • Contribute to a positive, inclusive, and solutions-focused work environment that values continuous improvement.

What we’re looking for: 

  • Minimum qualifications:
    • Ability to be on-site in Columbus, OH, with a regular shift of 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM EST, Monday through Friday.
    • High School Diploma or GED required.
    • Demonstrates a high level of professionalism, discretion, and care—especially when handling sensitive or confidential information.
    • A self-starter who is motivated, adaptable, and confident, with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work efficiently under pressure.
    • Comfortable with process-oriented thinking and eager to contribute to the development and refinement of mailroom operations.
    • Ability to lift and move packages weighing up to 50 lbs. or more, as part of regular mail handling duties.
  • Preferred qualifications:
    • Experience with Salesforce, Jira,  Google Sheets,  Excel, Google Docs
    • Ability to learn and understand new technologies and processes in a short time frame
    • Ability to utilize time management skills to  prioritize tasks and deadlines
    • Good verbal/ writing skills and ability to present information in a clear and concise manner
    • Brings a continuous improvement mindset, with a willingness to identify inefficiencies, propose solutions, and help implement them in collaboration with the broader team.

#LI-Entry 

This is a Non-Exempt position. Employees in this position are paid an hourly pay rate, on a bi-weekly basis, and are eligible to receive overtime pay for any hours worked over 40 in a work week, or over 8 in a work day if required by state law. 

At Upstart, your base pay is one part of your total compensation package. The anticipated annualized base salary for this position is expected to be within the below range. Your actual base pay will depend on your geographic location–with our “digital first” philosophy, Upstart uses compensation regions that vary depending on location. Individual pay is also determined by job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your preferred location during the hiring process.

In addition, Upstart provides employees with target bonuses, equity compensation, and generous benefits packages (including medical, dental, vision, and 401k).
