Mojo is a new systems programming language, designed from scratch for the AI era. Mojo language, compiler and SDK are being rapidly built by a team of talented engineers here at Modular.
The Mojo development team is looking to expand and hire a Debugging and Tooling Engineer.
LOCATION: Candidates based in the US, Canada, and UK are welcome to apply. To support growth and collaboration, those in earlier career stages work in a hybrid capacity at our Los Altos, CA or Edinburgh office, with a minimum of 3 days per week on-site and relocation assistance available for eligible candidates. Senior engineers have both remote and in-office flexibility. All new hires complete onboarding in person.
- Drive the development of the Mojo LLDB-based debugger, taking it from a current experimental project to a fully mature debugger to delight Mojo developers
- You will be working on interactive debugging, IDE integration, debug info formats, expression evaluator and other parts of the debugging experience.
- As the product evolves, you will have the opportunity to work on other projects, like GPU debugging, agentic debugging and debugger MCP, profiling support, and many other exciting novel features
- Your input will be critical to define the roadmap of the Mojo debugger and overall tooling
- In collaboration with the developer relations and the rest of the Mojo compiler team, you will be involved with the Mojo developer community, discussing features, capturing use cases, and directing open-source contributors.
- Required: Contributions to SDK and dev tools for a major programming language

The estimated base salary range for this role to be performed in the US, regardless of the state, is $148,000.00–$270,000.00 USD.
The estimated base salary range for this role to be performed in Canada, regardless of the province, is $172,400.00–$258,600.00 CAD.
The estimated base salary range for this role to be performed in the United Kingdom is £82,800.00– £123,600.00 GBP.
The salary for the successful applicant will depend on a variety of permissible, non-discriminatory job-related factors, which include but are not limited to education, training, work experience, business needs, or market demands. This range may be modified in the future. The total compensation for a candidate will also include annual target bonus, equity, and benefits, with equity making up a significant portion of total compensation.
